Extension of my arrow thread..

We need to be able to get feathers easier I think, since zombies don't drop them anymore, only way to get them is from chickens, and even then they can only give you one feather. And that's of course if they give any at all when you do kill them.

So, why not be able to sheer them. Then you could make certain items such as arrows easier.

I don't see why not, as the ratio for how much flint you could get vs. feathers seems in favor of flint... And that is without a looting or fortune enchantment....

Shears have not much use as is... well not really, they have plenty use, but adding another thing that they could be used for seems fine. Feathers should be common, as they already are. So makes sense...:D

It used to be easy. Cause Zombies used to drop them, but then they took that out. So now feathers are kinda uncommon.

I mean cause even if you do kill a chicken.. they can often give you just a piece of meat.. or even nothing at all.

Yes. It was simple idea. Still good in my book.

I can see that in the use of a breeding house/chicken coop.. But that'd be a bit more timely for the feathers, when i could just go in.. sheer six of them and get out. Instead of killing my product for only a slim chance of getting feathers, where as if I sheer them it's guaranteed. And since it's sheering, I'd get more feathers than just with killing them.

I get what you're saying.. I'd just rather have that be used for a different purpose.

I like this idea, it requires a pretty minimalistic amount of coding in order to make this happen in game... it would, however, have to introduce a 'sheered' chicken, until their feathers regrew (like the sheered sheep). I typically wouldn't have much use for this as I usually just hunt skeletons with my sword for their arrows and currently have a surplus of arrows as it is... but for players that want to craft their own arrows and don't want to have to kill their livestock in order to just get a few feathers, I can certainly see the value.

I think whacking chickens with shears should make them drop feathers, but they would be weak to shears so you could only get at max four feathers, this seems more balanced as early on in the game you would still have to kill them, plus who doesn't love smacking chickens.

I would rather it be you smack the chicken and it will drop some feathers.

This'd be VERY useful. Especially since chickens don't seem to spawn very often, or as often and cows, pigs, and sheep.

Feathers are only useful for making arrows and a good mob grinder will get you all of those that you need.

Okay but it would need to be one feather per chicken...I would much rather just have them drop more feathers. (3-5)

I mean... you COULD just use a looting 3 sword as well... But.. I don't see why this can't be used as well.

It does seem to be a tricky bit as far as which solution would be more satisfying overall, but I do agree that feathers should be more common somehow.
