I'm sure I'm not the only one who's ever thought of this, but what if we had texture packs or mash up packs based on popular PC Minecraft dimension mods. Basically, these kind of texture packs would re-texture anything that has similarity to something from the base mod and make it look like that object. For example, cocoa beans would be re-textured to look like cicadas (Twilight Forest).
So far I can think of 3 mods that could be used as inspiration for these packs:
~The Aether
~Twilight Forest
~Tropicraft
If the developers were up to it, perhaps they could make the texture packs into full-blown mash up packs, with skins, possibly new sound effects (like with resource packs on the PC), new menu layout, and maybe even a world to explore.
Oh, and before anyone says "there aren't enough mob species in the game currently to sustain all the mobs that exist for each mod. Yeah, I know. The texture/ mash-up packs wouldn't be a perfect replica of each mod, but it would be close enough.
It would be extremely difficult to get anything anywhere near these mods with just TP updates alone... and it wouldn't translate over very well to new spawned worlds if they were made.

I sort of get what you're saying, but I didn't have in mind recreating every little detail of these mods in the texture/ mash up packs. IF these packs were created, they also wouldn't have much change to the default textures except for making plants, decor and animals look more like their other-dimension counterparts, along with some other changes for the sky and water and other things. But anyway, what do you mean about the "wouldn't translate over very well" part?

Take the Palm Tree in the Tropicraft Mod as an example... it grows crooked (leaning, not straight), the leaves are arranged loosely in a starburst pattern and it grows on sand blocks.
In order to recreate this with a TP, you would have to reassign the textures to another tree already in the game, like the Oak Tree, then you would have to manually transplant each tree to a sand block and rearrange the leaves so they have that spiky appearance... without deteriorating on the custom map (if it is a mash up pack and not just a texture pack).
Now if someone were to spawn a new world, the trees would appear out of place as they would be shaped like an oak tree, growing straight (not leaning/crooked) on dirt blocks in oak tree favorable biomes, and the leaves would be 'full' or 'rounded', and not spiky.
Changing the textures does not alter placement of blocks in the game...just the way those individual blocks look.

What do you guys think about this?
legal issues are kinda keeping...all of that...from happening

Technically, there are no legal issues with making TP's and MP's that are 'similar' to non-trademarked items.
Copyright laws are a lot more loose than Registered Trademarks and Patents.
In fact, you can directly copy someone else's work, and as long as you can show that it is at least 10% original work, you pass most copyright laws. Recreating from scratch and the limiting factors that would prevent you from being able to include most of what is in these Mods, would account for well more than a 10% deviation/difference from the original.

how about actual mods? not just the textures and sounds from things like aether but the mobs, functions, and everything else. like say...going by aether example, could those cloud things exist? or could we get glowstone to be a portal? or does that cross way over a line somewhere?
Unless the original creators of the MOD go through the paperwork to legally trademark their work... I believe that they could be copied, pretty much exactly, seeing as it has to literally be rewritten from Java to C++
I think the bigger issue is more of a public image issue rather than a legal issue. If some MODders got mad about their MODs being duplicated on other platforms and even being sold without any proceeds going back to them, it could cause some very negative press. Bad for PR.

I used to have a good signature, but it got nerfed.
