You can already carry 1728 things if you're carrying stacks of 64 (not counting the hotbar). That is plenty for me. If I run out of room, I just go empty everything out and come back.
That pretty much sums me up.
I'm not underground that long very often anyhow.
Even when I am, then I start prioritizing. There's no fun carrying fluffloads of backpacks around....
Also, infinite storage with backpack-in-backpack...no.

I dont think that you would be able to open a backpack inside of another backpack, it would need to be in your hotbar to open it.
my thoughts: what happens when you die? your backpack just sits there with the things in it?
anyways support, i like this idea and have seen it a lot before.

Pretty much my feelings on the matter as well. Although, to be honest, I'm actually on the fence on this one, and there was a time when I had considered mentioning it for a suggestion... but, I sat down and thought about it.... if a cubic meter of rock weighed roughly between 2,500 kg to 2,900 kg... and you could carry them in stacks of 64....
That's potentially around 4,665,000 kg in your inventory alone (give or take about 350,000 kg), or roughly 4750 to 5550 tons of rock that could be carried in your inventory alone.
Yes... I know it's a game, but it's already over the top as it is in the amount a player can carry on their own... and wouldn't your player inventory imply a backpack of sorts anyway?
Besides... were something like this to be implemented, you would have to limit that you cannot place a backpack within a backpack, because that could get to be quite abusive over time.

I know it's a lot and for the most part I'm content with it.
I just would like it in those times where I'm in a cave that's 400 blocks away from my house, so I'd rather get extra stuff than leave and have to run all the way back to it.

You could always just carry an enderchest with you (once they are implemented into the game for consoles)... drop it, throw stuff into it, and pick it back up... unload it when you get to the surface.... wash and repeat.
Thats not exaggerating... its quite the opposite. And don't ask somebody sarcastically if they heard a word if you do't know how to properly use it in a sentence.

An Enderchest doesn't seem like a very convenient option, especially when your mining underground. They don't double like normal chests and you'd have to carry a stack of them or more.

I like the idea of backpacks. Support
Why would you need a stack of Enderchests? Just pick it back up when you are done with it. And you want unlimited backpacks that can each hold as much as double chests? Now THAT is just broken....way too Over Powered.
Hmm, what about having a "special backpack slot" like we have "special boots, legs, armor and head slots". That way, we could only have 1 backpack at a time. I´d like to use enderchests, but they aren´t in the game.

What would happen if you un-equipped the backpack while it had stuff in it? Would items go scattering to the ground as if the backpack was upended? what would happen to your stuff with a full backpack if you died while it was equipped? Would the items remain in the backpack and meet whatever fate that backpack met? or would they scatter like the rest of the items in your inventory?

I'd imagine it'd be the same as when a chest breaks and... yeah just fate of the backpack.
I mean, I can't see why it would just 'break'.. unless someone accidentally took it off when the inventory/hotbar was full along with the pack itself.

Look out people... We have a dictionary in the house. Lol. Better be careful if you say something remotely wrong.
That would be nice. Very nice.
