The Survival mode should be called build without flying and unlimited resources mode. There is nothing to survive from. I think I have died more from fall damage and hunger than any mob. And once you establish a good farm your pretty much set. What I propose is a Blood Moon. Once randomly a month of minecraft days there is a blood moon. It would be like an eclipse that would go on for 2 or 3 days. In this the mobs spawn above ground ( so if you have an underground base like I do they cannot spawn in it) and they go after you and your friends only. To make this more exciting the mobs should have their normal stats enhanced like speed and damage. To signal the start of a Blood Moon there would be a message like the one that appears when someone dies saying. BLOOD MOON TONIGHT!!!! ON YOUR GUARD!!!! Please like this post or whatever need be to get this post seen. I wouldn't even mind if they didn't make this exactly how I specified. Just please something to make survival ACTUALLY SURVIVAL!!!
I would prefer the way the PC does it--Different phases of the moon and difficulty level affect how often mobs spawn with armour/weapons.
Same concept of "boosted stats," but probably a little easier to bring in.
It makes me really upset seeing post like this considering I've been trying to make Minecraft survival harder since day one. I Can't be completely upset with this though, At least people are TRYING to make the game a bit more difficult.

It would yeah give us incentive to survive. Because you're right, once you get a good game going... the chances of anything happening to you are next to none.
So basically what I'm getting from this is to make the beginning game much harder, but leave the middle game relatively unchanged....and yet it is the middle game that people are saying is too easy.
Once you are established, there is little that can really hurt you... Making it occasionally more difficult for the outside when you are safe and cozy locked indoors, does nothing for the game difficulty for an established player, it only directly impacts the un-established player.
