I think that Watermelon really needs some changing.
It takes like 1 solid minute of eating to get all your hunger bars back if you have none, because it takes like 25 watermelon to be full, and it doesn't keep you full for very long.
So.. I'd rather it be like.. each watermelon gives you 3x less when you mine a watermelon, but it heals you 3x more.
Just so that way it isn't like.. you still get 10 pieces of watermelon and it heals you as much as bread.
I understand that it has more purpose for having more on the pc because you can apparently use it with brewing.
But I somehow doubt that 4J will ever get around to implementing more potions for the 360.
Melons are food that's good for around-the-house work.
But try eating a slice of watermelon and a loaf of bread. Which do you think will fill you up more in the long run?
I think they're fine as is. "Tipping the scale" won't really help.
What about an apple in comparison to a slice of watermelon?
I am personally filled up more by a slice of watermelon than an apple although obviously Minecraft doesn't take into account my independent eating habits.
There are already ample other sources of food that fill you up more and for longer durations, so I see no reason why watermelon needs to be made exactly the same. I use watermelon for a different purpose - as a food only when I just want to keep myself topped right up by eating a slice or two very frequently (high danger situations where I don't want to get even 2 bars down so that I'm sure I'll always be healing if I take some damage)... rather than wasting a cooked steak when I just need 1.5 bars or so to fill myself right up again.
How about before we argue about how they work, let's talk about actually making them able to be found growing rather than just as seeds in random chests.
It should still drop the same amount, but it should heal two because a large slice of watermelon is more filling than an apple and everyone knows that.

I think "tipping the scale" would be just fine.
I made my points.
If you enjoy having it be "house-work" food then sure good for you.
But.. when you happen to get distracted and don't realize your hunger bar went down cause you were going to town with the work and your health starts ticking down... Now you have to stand around for 2 minutes eating because they only give you 1-1.5 hunger bars when you have like 14.
Melons are the only food you can eat directly after harvesting.
And harvesting stacks of them is very easy with an automated piston melon farm.
My small farm usually gives me more than one stack of slices per harvest (8-16 plants).
A bigger farm can easily fill a double chests within minutes.
So they need to have a downside, if not it's like playing on peaceful - just to easy.
Edit:
And if you have a skeleton/bone meal farm just build a nano farm and make/use bread instead:
Use duck tape on your controller and you have more wheat you can use.
Just my 2 cents.
I know that they need to have a downside.. I just hated waiting around forever for my hunger bar to go back up because I needed to eat 15 pieces of watermelon.
I'm sure some are thinking "well why didn't you have other foods?". I just didn't have anything else at the time.
It's like the "redstone" of foods.. Too much of it and not enough uses.
If it was like on the PC where apparently there's potions that involve watermelon or watermelon seeds.. then I'd be more obliged to agree with why this isn't exactly "needed".
I'm not arguing entirely the reasons why people are disagreeing, in fact I can actually agree to an extent.
It just made me think of like.. Cookies. Cookies are kind of the same way in a sense. But Cookies are harder to make, take more preparation time, and heal you slightly more. But just slightly more. Those I would argue for sure need to be fixed. And to a lesser extent Watermelon it seems.
Well, my friend was trying to do it and it wouldn't work. So...
One Melon slice plus 8 Gold Nuggets makes a Glistening Melon. Add the Glistening Melon to an awkward potion and it makes a Potion of Instant Heath. The crafting recipe is under the food category.
The way I see it, food saturation and hunger points are the closest thing to reality this game has. Meat is heavy in protein which fills you up, and watermelons are high in sugar and water which will barely fill you up if at all.

8 gold nuggets are you kidding me? That's the biggest waste of gold in the world!
Unless you go to town killing pigmen like they're going out of style with a Looting III Sword.. man.. hardly any way of really getting enough gold. At least for me because I build tonnes of rail.

Dam you 4J.
Technically, an apple contains more nutritional value than does a slice of watermelon. If a thirst bar is ever implemented, then I'd agree that it would fill your water requirement much faster than an apple, but just because something fills you up faster, doesn't mean that it contains more nutrients.
From a Game balance perspective, it is much easier to get watermelon slices than it is to get apples after you start growing watermelons, and you get multiple slices per watermelon, but only one apple found at a time. As pointed out above, you don't have to really do much to 'prepare' the watermelon slice.

O-O
Blasphemy. I can think of 1000 uses for redstone before getting into the brewing implementations.
Which brings me to melons... the only good use for melons is Health potions. They are a crap food and should remain a crap food because it would a waste of time trying to make anything else useful out of them. (However, melon blocks make a pretty cool wall paper if you're building a modern-style home).
ps- I thought it only took one gold nugget to make a glistering melon. Was this change with TU13? Most of my MC time is spent in Creative these days.

I dunno. I don't want to waste gold on food so.. I never bothered to pay attention. Lol

I don't know.
Thoughts?

So it should stay the same.

I seen a golden apple before. It was pretty good but I still can't justify it. Unless I'm overflowing with gold and no use for it.

Hint: Use the duplication glitch
Far as I know those were patched. I tried doing a couple but they didn't work anymore. Plus it said they were patched in the update info.
