Have you ever thought survival wasn't like surviving in the wilderness should be?
With my idea it would! This update would add thirst along with hunger and being too cold or hot can kill you!
My idea with the water is to be like the hunger bar. You would need to get bowls of water, water bottles or drink from oceans or rivers. However, if you drink saltwater you could get poisoned. If you run out of water you will loose hearts and things that aren't really there will appear. Awkward potions which currently do nothing will fill up the water bar 4 instead of 2.
Another thing that would be in the update whould be a status bar that would tell you if you are hot (which would be in the desert) , average, or cold (which would be in a area with snow or in high mountains). To prevent loosing hearts from coldness you could build a fire. You would build the fire with sticks in a pyramid shape. Once you place it you will need a new item called a flint and stick. This would be crafted like a flint and steel just instead of iron its a stick. This item would only be used once. Once the item is broken you will just have a flint. Fires lat for about 5 minutes unless you use another flint and stick. To prevent loosing hearts from heat you need to be in the shade. When being hot your water bar will deplete faster. This makes water in the desert important.
Thirst bar has already been suggested in another thread, there is no current distinction in the game between a freshwater source block and a salt water source block, nor is there a difference in the runoff of each. 'Flint and stick' makes no sense at all, although you could throw a bow into a crafting table with a stick to make a fire-starter tool, one use and it reverts back to a bow. (bowstring wraps around the stick and a back and forth sawing motion with the bow causes the stick to spin very fast causing enough friction to start a fire, but the stick itself should probably be consumed in the process, otherwise it would need to have limited use before the tool wears out entirely).
The game would have to have a way to track ambient heat from sources like campfires, torches, and lava as well as environmental heat due to direct light/shade, biomes, weather conditions, and day/night cycle.
This would require a new block type, campfire, for your pyramid of sticks (suggest 4 sticks arranged in a box so you don't 'need' a crafting table to build).

Please tell me what you think in the comments.

Great idea!
