This could be made my combining either coal or charcoal with an ingot of iron to create a piece of steel.

Could also be used but would make 9 rather than one.
This could be used as another material to make weapons, tools, a special kind of bow (?). This would obviously be much harder than regular Iron, so I'm imagining It as being a block that is immune to explosions.
I felt like if I had put Ir or something for Iron it could have been confused with Iridium. I am seeing it as being for tools and weapons, but also could be used as a strong building material that resists a creeper blast and ghast balls. The recipe would result in Steel Ingots or maybe even just a steel block, and I like the idea of 8 better than 9 for the stacking reasons. I was also envisioning another recipe that involved the ingots that could make steel beams as a strong and cool looking building block that could be made like this:

I was also thinking that the steel ingots would replace iron ingots when making rails.
Here is a list of all my ideas for the steel:
Blocks, Rails, Weapons (Swords and Bows), Tools, beams, wire (for the bow), steel wool, armor, etc.
Perhaps a big use could be building materials if steel ingots could be crafted into a number of other blocks/slabs/stairs such as riveted streel, corrugated steel, reinforced steel, corroded steel, etc. Much like having stone bricks, moss, cracked, and chiseled bricks to destroy brutal repetition
I like those ideas. Maybe there could also be an added feature for Iron that if it is exposed to rain would eventually rust, that way there would be a point to use steel instead of just Iron all the time.
I had a good idea for the steel wool thing: It can be used to 'clean' weapons. Cleaning would be a way to restore some uses on the tool without the use of the coming anvils. I was thinking that maybe one steal wool could attempt to restore a tool by 10% of its total number of uses. If the 10% is met the wool would be used up. If the wool is not used up it will restore the next tool it is used on by a percent based off what it didn't use on the previous one (so if we used this on a diamond tool and it restored 9% of the uses, it would only restore up to 1% of the uses on the tool after that).
Obviously this would have to be limited in someway. Maybe limit each tool to having the steel wool used on it one time in its lifetime.

Thoughts?
Or am I missing something.
