My idea for the enchanting system is that they should add the option to choose the enchantment you get but at a higher level cost. Say for example that you want a sword with sharpness, knockback, flame aspect, and looting. You could get this (a very small percentage of the time) randomly for 30 levels with the current mechanic. With my idea you could choose all four enchantments but for around 50 levels instead.
With my idea, each enchantment would have a certain level cost, with the better enchantments costing more levels. If you want more than one enchantment on the same item, there will be a level penalty. For each extra enchantment, the penalty gets larger. So if you want a sword with 4 high level enchantments the cost would be quite high.
My example again is a sword. Lets say that you want a sword with sharpness IV and Looting III. Say sharpness IV costs 10 levels. Say that Looting III costs 20 levels. The base cost would be 30 levels. But since you chose two enchantments, there is a penalty of say, 5 levels. So the final cost would be 35 levels
I thought of this idea because of the frustration that the current mechanic causes to me personally. After spending a lot of time building up 30 levels to spend, all I get is sharpness III? It is frustrating that even when spending the max amount of levels you can still get (and quite often will get) lower level enchantments and only get one or two enchantments.
Let me know what everyone thinks. Maybe this is a dumb idea but I thought I would at least put it out there and see what other people think. For anyone that does not like this idea, please tell me the flaws of it (politely) and tell me how you would tweek it to improve it.
