Ok, we haven't had texture packs very long on the xBox360, but as we get more of them, I've noticed a common exception thread or a 'but'...
I really Like Texture Pack A.... except for....
So here is an advanced Mix and Match Texture Pack idea. allow users to save and name a small file that allows them to personalize their own texture pack using the existing texture packs that have been provided.
Something along the lines of ...
I like the day/night/weather cycle of Pack A
The Stone block texture in Pack B
The Rest of the blocks from Pack C
Most of the Creature Skins from Pack D
Except for Creepers from Pack A
Same as: MyMixUp1 (that way you don't have to micromanage the settings every time you re enter, and can use it in other games as well).
I don't believe this would qualify as user created content (it operates within the framework of existing provided TP's), and clearly, you would have to own/purchase any specific Texture Pack before you could include any content from it in the Mix and Match advanced settings.
Exactly what i was thinking. The Natural Textures armor and weapons, Beds and Paintings from the Halloween Pack, and the rest will likely be the Skyrim Pack...twould be perfect

Enderman Engineering Enderstries: For all your block moving and stacking projects!
Wow, simple yet elegant. I'd love this! There's definitely some blocks from each pack i wanna use without using them all! From what I've seen of the Skyrim pack i know that i'll want to use textures from it as well.
The only foreseeable problem on the horizon with this idea is that of hosting multiplayer games. Unless there was a way to have mix up packs default as normal textures to those who don't have access to all the packs used to make the mix up. That or possibly making them single player only, but then, where's the fun in that!? If I've made an awesome map using various blocks the first thing i'm gonna want to do is rush out and show my friends, and I've found that posting pictures on facebook never quite does the trick!

Defaulting to the basic packaged texture would probably happen anyway in the event of a player joining a game that was built with a texture pack they didn't own...but this presents an interesting sales opportunity.
If you don't have one of the specific texture packs when you go to join MP, you could get an alert pop-up that advises you of this and offers you a chance to purchase that Texture Pack in order to "enhance your gaming experience" for the full world effect.
But more than that, purchasing other Texture Packs become more attractive to other Game World Developers too, because they would know ahead of time that they could incorporate what ever elements they want into their own personal set, and will for that reason want to expand their options and collection of various textures.
Either way, it is a win-win. Increase Texture Pack sales and revenues for 4J, increase world options/experience for customers.
Sounds like the suggestion I have made before. Mix N match. Although I said it a different way, it is still the same. Anyway I would love to have this kind of option.
As for the people joining not seeing, isn't that what the trial pack is for; or am I wrong on that? That is what I thought getting at least the trial would be for.
The way I was thinking and elaborated on was that when you make a match up, it would be saved as a separate file. Within that file would have the packs linked to and references to the textures. What could be is that 1 pack could be used as the default, pack that you would work with while the others would be the ones that is referenced for specific pieces of them. After all one must start somewhere.
Overall I like the idea no matter whom mentions it.

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
I do like the idea. But wouldnt it be highly difficult and take forever to choose which stuff you want from the packs. Or would it randomly mix the Packs?

randomly mixing packs defeats the purpose of mix n match. ><
Well I think it does. As far as difficult and long it would take to do so.... That all depends on the layout in how they would set up the UI for it. Some would just want this or that from a pack into another one, so that would be rather quick, while some others would want to take their time in deciding what they want each block to look like, and that is just the texture part. So that all really depends on the individual and what they want from each pack to be in their mix n matched pack.
It is not like we would be able to create our own textures, it is more like utilizing what we already own a right to use that would be the selection...

The interface doesn't have to be difficult, as Tamorr said above, you could have the ability to set a default texture to everything, and even then, have the ability to switch the default and set all to default.
Then you could have tabbed sections for like:
Wood Blocks
Ground Blocks
Wool Blocks
Misc Blocks (Crafting Table, Chest, Furnace, Dispenser, etc.)
Redstone and Rails
Environment Effects (Day/Night, Weather, Water, Lava)
MOBS
Tools/Armor/Weapons
Each of these sections could be set to a specific default as well individually, as well as selecting the individual item within and change it to the default setting.
You could have a picture of each block as you cycle through the Texture Packs, just to see if it is what you want or not.
It could take as much time or as little time as you want to tinker with it as you want. some people really only want to change just one or two things and they would be happy, others would just have fun spending hours just playing with their own customer Texture Pack Mix N Match.
