...it would be nice to be able to find ores here or maybe some sort of Nether Wood from some sort of Ghastly Nether Tree, maybe the leaves and the wood itself burn perpetually like Netherrack, or is otherwise impervious to Fire, but the wood itself cannot be used in a furnace (for obvious reasons). Actually... black and without leaves, twisted and gnarled skeletal trees... if no leaves on the tree, then mining a wood block could yield a sapling (like flint from gravel).
Maybe some of the basic ores, only in Netherrack format:
Coal / Iron / Gold / Diamond / Lapis / Redstone
An opportunity for new ores??? Sulfur? Brimestone? Saltpeter? Bloodstone?
Maybe some new plant types that are unique to the nether, like the 2 types of trees I mentioned above, black skeletal and burning branch trees, Maybe some of the dead grass you sometimes find in the desert.
There are no really rare minerals/plants to hunt for or look for in the Nether. Most everything you might want to mine for is pretty common (with the possible exception of Soul Sand, Glow Stone, and mushrooms).
I would like to recommend considering hiding some deposits around so that there is more reason to mine and explore the depths of the Nether and to try and mine deeply into the netherrack.
Maybe Iron/Gold runs in rivers like lava and has a source block (instead of/or in addition to running in veins), and can be collected in a bucket, that once brought back to the main world and cooled with water, the source block solidifies into a block of iron/gold. (The runoff would have to cool to something common, like cobblestone).
Maybe you can find Sulfur deposits and be able to craft your own gunpowder with a crafting table and some coal/charcoal (optional.... maybe require a pinch of saltpeter?)
Looks like the PC has Nether Quartz... so that could be something if/when it gets added to the xBox 360. I like the molten metal idea, it adds an additional dimension of challenge to acquire it. Sulfur and Brimstone generate 'smells' that are commonly thought of when thinking of a 'hell region' Brimstone could be usable in potions, while sulfur could be used for crafting your own gunpowder.
I don't know the size of the Nether (and don't really want to know yet), but if the size is too small to include all these ideas, how about using the rest of them in a new dimension, which would be exclusive to Xbox?
I do think the Nether is a bit boring at the moment, so I like the thought of adding some more things to it. The tree and plant suggestions are cool and I like the idea of introducing a few new ores into the Nether. However, these additions cannot be overdone. This dimension is small enough already so putting too many new features into it will make it seem crowded. I think one or two new ores would be ideal, but they should be new ones exclusive to the Nether, but could be used for things in the Overworld (maybe brewing sulfur would yield a hostile mob repellant potion - yeah I know, a dumb suggestion, but you know get the idea -, etc.). Good suggestion, would like to hear more about your ideas
That is a very very good idea instead of hostile mob repellant maybe just creeper repellant this would be very useful in survival and on
ServersIam liking this idea
Maybe for the two exclusive blocks they could be ruby and titanium
Titanium would have the same damage as diamonds and armor rating but it lasts longer and
Is better for enchanting. Rubies could be used for deceration or trading with villagers.
