Here's a cool idea of mine that could very easily be added with enough popularity! Netherrack that burns when it receives a redstone signal! To make this wonderful block, all you would need is 4 redstone surrounding a piece of netherrack in the crafting table.
"What can I do with this?" you may ask. Well, here are a few examples:
1. Toggleable Fireplace
2. One of those spooky hallways that when you enter the door, the lights go on in sequence down the hallway
3. Fire cooker for our many mob traps, because who like dealing with that dangerous lava
4. Anything else that your creative brain desires fused netherrack for!

I agree with the poster.
This would be fantastic to have for fireplaces or for turning on lights in a cryptic hallway without the tacky look a restone lamp or glowstone would have in an area like that. I build mostly Nordic and Medieval builds, so this would help a bunch.
This is a very good idea, but the only thing i disagree with is the block you chose to this. I don't just believe its the kind of block for he job.
What do you suggest then?
I chose netherrack because it is the only block that burns forever if lit. Creating Fused Netherrack just gives it a very desirable toggle feature.
It has also occurred to me that Fused Netherrack may be too easy to make. A new crafting recipe I suggest is a piece of netherrack in the middle of the crafting grid, a piece of redstone to the left, right, and below it, and a fire charge above it.

You can only euipt fire charge in creative of the PC version. How about just think of something else.

Dispenser + Redstone + Pressure plate + fire charge.
If you want to view the build i have one in one of my worlds. Both the fireplace and the netherrack hallway that lights with fire, a tip if you build one you need to trigger the dispensers twice or have the netherrack 2 blocks away from them so when the fire charge hits the wall next to it it ignites as for some reason it doesnt always work directly next to it.
You could also do this with redstone lamps or glowstone using a tflipflop and pistons in both cases.
Edit; to put the fire out you only need a piston to move the netherrack.
This is a good idea, but I think in a future update (if 4J decides to implement it) a dispenser with a flint and steel in it can be given a redstone signal and set a flame to an adjacent block.
Yes, I dont think that fused netherrack is necesary since we are going to get the ability to turn blocks on fire if we put a flint and steel inside of a dispenser. With what we have now I can make a toggleable nether portal (thanks to fire charges)

Yeah.... that could work, but I like the simplicity of the original design and function. Plus, to add in the level of complexity with dispensers and pistons, you are neglecting one of the very reasons for this suggestion in the first place, a toggle-able fireplace inside a dwelling of some sort. adding in the pistons and dispensers and additional circuitry, now you have to try and hide all this additional stuff in something that could otherwise have been a pretty simple build.

I think just Flint and Steel in the top slot would suffice, instead of the fire charge.
I like the idea. It's just a means of automating something you can do already (lighting/extinguishing netherrack), so it's not going to be OP. Also, I want, so I can turn off my fireplace while I'm not around and my stupid dogs won't keep catching on fire.

I think my idea is pretty well thought out.
