Since Lapis is a kind of not so common ore in the world of minecraft its sad to see that its only use is for dyes.
In this topic I would like to hear some of your Ideas and suggestions on what good use Lapis Lazuli could have other than making dyes.
My ideas for lapis lazuli are #1. You could craft lapis powder from it and adding it to water bottles for more potion abilities such as flying for a period of time.
#2. You could craft a magic wand out of 2 sticks surrounded buy 7 lapis on the workbench.
The way I see the wand working, you'd have tho enchant the wand for 10exp and there would be 3 enchantments Fire, Lightning and Force push. All three of those enchantments inflict more damage than a enchanted diamond sword.
Using this magic wand with the Fire enchantment will set hostile and passive mobs on fire inflicting more damage.
With the lightning enchantment it would paralyze the mob making it move slower while also conflicting damage to it.
The Force push enchantment would simply be a knock back enchantment with conflicting damage.
Well, idk those are just some thoughts I had on lapis.
Lapis Lazuli is a gemstone common to the Middle Eastern Regions, it is most known for being ground up into a powder substance called ultramarine which has been used in the most expensive blue dyes throughout history. It has a Mohs scale (hardness) of 5–5.5, which is slightly harder than iron (Mohs 4), but is much softer than diamond (Mohs 10) / of course obsidian has a similar hardness of (Mohs 5-6).
As a mine-able gemstone in the game, you could argue that it should be craft-able to similar items as diamond for tools/armor/weapons/etc.
#1 No. Flying in survival is far too OP.
#2 Magic has been suggested before in various ways. A cheap renaming and reworking of knockback/punch is about the only original part. Still, I'm not a fan of the concept.
Greg: Did the science mention that a suit of blue diamond armour would shatter with a well-placed shot or two? Lapis armour has been suggested countless times between here and the PC section.
I think to build a want out of those materials (which are easy to obtain, a lot harder than diamond) and only have to spend 10exp to level it up which makes it more powerful than an enchanted diamond sword is absolutely ridiculous.
If anything it should be just as powered as an iron sword or in between iron and diamond.
In my opinion I believe that a wand is a poor choice for a new weapon given the thousands of other options.

Yes... but then if we want to get picky... Lapis and Diamond aren't known for their flexibility and resilience when struck. Reality obviously doesn't have to apply in every instance. If we're going to reject Lapis for being too brittle, then we should reject Diamond for being even more brittle than Lapis. Diamond is obviously ok for the game and it isn't game breaking to use Lapis in this fashion, it just adds a bit more flavor so you can have 'pretty blue' equipment.

I wasnt looking for anybodys harsh critiques, just want to broaden our view on Lapis.
There are a number of things that lapis would be useful for.
Unless your going to come up with a better idea why post your opinion on what is right/wrong abput and idea.

Resiliance =/= Hardness =/= Strength
In reality, any metal armour is the best for its strength, and malleability.
I would like to see something that lets us turn iron into steel.
Maybe iron and a piece of coal on an anvil used along with a small bit of EXP, it shouldn't be as good as diamond, but should be very efficient if your not into mining stacks of diamond.
Lapis could possibly make a good bludgeoning weapon... Warhammers?

I put my shirt on one leg at a time, just like everybody else.
I wasn't looking for anybody's harsh critiques, just want to broaden our view on Lapis.

Unless your going to come up with a better idea why post your opinion on what is right/wrong about an idea.
When someone posts a suggestion, it is expected that other people will post their opinions on what is right and wrong about the idea. That's a big part of what the suggestion forum is for, and why it's a forum. Some ideas are good, some are bad, some can be improved by banging on them for a while, and that all comes out in the discussion of a suggestion. So, sorry, you don't get to suggest something and demand that nobody point out the flaws in it. Doesn't work that way.
Also, don't solicit ideas from other people. That's not how the Suggestions forum, and threads in it, work. The idea is that you make a suggestion and everyone discusses it, not that you ask for suggestions.
As for the suggestions:
Using lapis as a potion ingredient would be useful (the stuff needs to have some use; how many things does anyone really need to make blue?) but probably not for a flying potion. It's just way too common, and to not have a game-breaking effect, flying potions would have to be extremely expensive to make (that is, using very rare ingredients).
A wand made of lapis and sticks would be essentially free. Lapis is so common it's a nuisance. Giving out a free item that is stronger than a diamond sword, and has similar effects to an enchanted diamond sword while requiring a fraction of the amount of exp to enchant it, is just a bad, bad, BAD idea. Diamond is rare and powerful; wood is common and weak. Having something that is both common and powerful would be greatly unbalanced.
Also, the real-world properties of materials aren't necessarily relevant to Minecraft, where we can put thousands of cubic meters of stuff inside a 2-cubic-meter chest, float blocks of rock in mid-air, etc. Consider this: It takes 4 cow hides to make a pair of boots. Speaking as a real-world leatherworker, that's a heck of a lot of waste! But, although you can carry enough cowhides to make 576 pairs of boots, you can only carry 36 finished pairs of boots. You can carry the ingredients for 16x as many boots as you can the finished products. And trust me, boots are a lot easier to carry than cowhides! It's not worth even trying to make real-world sense out of Minecraft physics.
Sorry Ayarboom, but these ideas are way too unbalanced. I don't understand why a magic wand is more powerful than an enchanted diamond sword, and only costs 10 XP levels to enchant. It is too powerful compared to the materials needed to craft it. No support, but I would like to see another use for Lapis.
Your right and I wasnt thinking that far ahead. But the wand could have a lower efficiency level less than a ny gold tool.
