We can have paint to paint blocks such as stone and brick instead of having just wool. You could also have a custom color wheel for custom colors.
Thats a good idea for a beginner! May be the craftng recipe should be a bucket o water and a dye of choice and the outcome would be a bucket of paint the same color of the dye you put in the recipe. Also one bloc will take 1/4 of the bucket of paint meaning you can use it 4 time until you have to make a new one.
I would like to have the ability to paint each pixel. Make it what I want.
If you mean to paint each pixel on a block (or series there of.... this may not be practical from a data storage/handling standpoint. Minecraft has enough to keep track of for each block.
If you mean to add to the artwork available for paintings... this could be done, theoretically... but would require the build of an entire new interface (like a crafting table) just for the purpose of creating a new image for a painting (maybe an painting eisel)?
Is this for a whole block or a side of the block because my friend he wants to paint the inside of his house but have the outside be left as stone.
I'm all for surface treatments that can be applied to any particular side of a block, as opposed to the whole block itself, and maybe be collected in a similar fashion as red stone or tracks (although, these surface treatment examples can only be applied to the tops of blocks)...
I would also support the ability to apply this to armor as well... Just for flavor.
I also think paint would be a good idea, weather it's by the block or by the side. Actually I think my buildings look kind of boring without any color.
Yes, you CAN use wool. But I have several times read on the loading screen something like "Wool may catch fire during a lightning strike". So I think I'll stay clear of using wool as a main building block...
I've been thinking about the idea of paint in Minecraft a few months back. Here's how I thought about the suggestion:
You would take any type of dye, and press LT on a cauldron. The cauldron will then fill up with the color of the dye you put in, and taking away one dye away from your inventory. Also, you should be able to mix dyes in the cauldron to make more colors.
Once you have the dye in the cauldron, you can take a paintbrush (Couldn't come up with a recipe for it.) and press LT on the cauldron with it. This will dip the paintbrush in the cauldron, giving you a paintbrush with the dye you put in the cauldron.
After that, you can go ahead and paint bricks, wood, wooden planks, and much more with the paint brush by pressing RT on the block.
I love the idea. I really wish I could paint my interior walls white, for instance.
The problem is, to look good it would have to affect only one side of a block. Just because I've painted the walls of my MC bedroom white doesn't mean I want part of the outside of my castle to have a bit white splotch on it! And that could be a problem in multiple ways. For example, can you only paint one side of a block? If so, what about corners? If you can paint multiple sides, what if you want to paint them different colors? I might want to paint the walls of my enchanting room purple, but it shares a wall with my bedroom, and I sure don't want that to be purple (or, worse yet, partly purple). We're looking at four bytes of extra data per block for this -- six four-bit numbers to indicate the colors of the sides, plus a byte to indicate which sides have been painted. (theoretically we could do away with that one, but most likely, the 360 needs things in at least 16-bit units anyway, so we wouldn't be saving anything)
Given the limitations of the platform, that's a huge increase in data that could be better used for something else.
Another option would be to have paint be something like paintings, where a "paint spot" could be stuck to a wall and spread out to cover a certain area on all sides. That might work without massive data overload and still allow things like torches stuck to the walls, though we couldn't put paintings over it, unfortunately.
Well, the technical issues are for 4J and Mojang to work out. That's what they get the big bucks (or lots of doe) for. I'm just supporting the idea.

I think if you were to do it that way maybe at least 10 blocks per bucket, I just think that 4 doesn't seem that much and filled buckets don't stack so to paint a whole house your inventory would be filled with buckets of paint.

What about 1 Stick + 1 Horse Hair = 1 Paint Brush?
Well... Horse Hair doesn't exist in the game, at least not yet. But Horses are on their way into the game, so why not make them drop this item once in a while when killed? And hair from horses are (or has been), as far as I know, used to make paint brushes in real life.
But on the other hand I see that Horses from the PC-versjon drops Leather. I can hardly see them making this any different in the Xbox-edition. So the recipe for a Paint Brush would be to use Leather instead of Horse Hair. Even though the Leather used could come from a Cow.
What would happen when you break the blocks? Especially if you had multiple sides of a block different colors? Would the block reset to default if you picked it back up? If not would they be differentiated in your inventory so you know that this brick has a blue side and a white side and the other sides are original? Talk about inventory space.. lol.. Hover over a block, it say Stone Brick w/ blue side on east and white side on north? The blocks in the Mass Effect pack weren't even renamed, so I don't see how they would implement it without hassle after the fact of painting it.
Don't get me wrong, I like the idea.. I would love to graffiti a "building" or two lol. I would just hope that it would be somewhat easy to know which block is which after the paint set and you decide to pick it back up...

You don't need to know all the answers, you just need to know where to find them.

The way I see paint working on a block is that the paint would be a surface treatment to the block, much like a torch, redstone dust, a painting, a sign, a repeater, etc. When the block breaks, these items are disconnected. It would be debatable as to whether or not you would be able to pickup-recycle the paint bits or if they would just be gone, and that may hinge upon how efficient/difficult it is to paint a side of a block. (ie. if you are only getting 1 side treatment per paint item/bucket in inventory, I'd want to be able to recycle, but if you built a paint brush/roller that has 10-20 applications or so (as suggested above) before running out, then it would be just as well to scrap it and not worry about the excess paint bits.
