Okay yesterday I made a thread about new inviting options in Minecraft Xbox: URL And it has come to my attention that if we were to have a Public joining option as mentioned in my thread we need to have player zones. So I thought why not explain the idea and see what everyone thinks.
Okay so what zones would do is they would control a specific set of actions allowed in a specific specified area. What this means is you could control where players can do certain things and what they can do. So how this would work is in a game there would be a setting in the menu for Player Zones. There would be categories: Friends, Friends of Friends, Non Friends (Excluding friends of friends)
Under each category there would be a button to Add a zone. The # of zones allowed in each category is infinite (Although I would not recommend having too many as it would cause mass confusion). The zones are layered meaning one zone above another overwrites the effects of the zone below it.
For example: If I created a zone that was X 0 Y0 Z0 - X9 Y0 Z 9. (A 9x9 square) and players in this zone were allowed to mine and I created another zone X 2 Y0 Z2 - X7 Y0 Z7 (A 5x5 square) where players were not allowed to mine. And the 5x5 zone was above the 9x9 zone in the order then within the 9x9 zone there would be an area where players can't mine.
Obviously I used the same Y coordinate in my example so I didn't have to create a 3-D drawing but the concept is exactly the same in 3-D.
Now you are probably wondering what options there would be in each zone? So I thought why not have a fully customizable set of options using checkboxes? So I think the following checkboxes would be needed in each zone:
1. Cannot Place Blocks
2. Cannot Break Blocks (If this is checked then if a creeper explodes in the area of a player that cannot break blocks then the creeper will explode but not do any damage to blocks it will however hurt the player if he is close to the explosion)
3. Cannot Sleep
4. Cannot Kill Animals
5. Cannot Attack players
6. Cannot Open Door
7, Cannot Push Buttons/Pressure Plates/Levers
8. Cannot Open Chests
9. Cannot use Boats/Minecarts etc...
(Obviously I could go more in-depth into the what you can and can't place in the options but that has already been discussed before I am sure)
Now if you want you could select a player and change the specific zones for them, the zones listed would be the zones that you set up in the zones menu for there type of player (Friend, Friends of Friends, Non Friends [Excludes Friends of Friends]) once there zone settings are changed they WILL NOT EVER be affected by any more zone settings you add/remove UNLESS you check off a box on there card that states reset to default zones.
I really do hope this makes sense I might add some pictures to show roughly what the menu would look like but until I maybe upload these pictures I hope you enjoyed reading this suggestion and comment below. Thanks!
I like this idea. It would really help with rp maps or adventure maps. Maybe there could be a checklist where you can control specific blocks people can break or not break.
Full support.
Evilmonkeys idea would be nice aswell.
Don't forget player specific zones for the likes of housing.
Yeah in the post I stated: "Obviously I could go more in-depth into the what you can and can't place in the options but that has already been discussed before I am sure". What I meant by that was I could go more into detail about specific blocks but of course this would just make the post longer... So yes I do agree with evilmokey.
Just wanted to revive my suggestion threads as most of them took a lot of thought and IMO are great additions into the game. So I will be bumping this thread and several other suggestion threads I have made for MC Xbox360. If this infringes on the forum rules (Which I am not sure if this is the case) feel free to remove this post (Not the thread please).
