I'm filing this here, since this "fix" is apparently intentional, so it's not a "Bug".
The new minecart speed is depressing. It's not really worth the time and resource investment to build them if they're not going to zip along at a respectable speed (especially when pushed by powered rail).
I've been watching the various threads over the last few days, and I know I'm not the only one who feels this way. I haven't heard a good reason why the speed needs to match the PC version, and we'd like our minecart speed back please.
well I am unsure of the original speed, as now it does fix the flickering of the cart when looking behind; or at least tones it down a bit. I wouldn't mind it being 50% faster than it is now.
Either way this matching speed would take quite a while to get use to, since like I mentioned it appears like I could outrun it with sprint. Well in the only test I have ever done. I would have to mess around with it more to be sure for myself.
One thing is certain, the speed seem like it was cut in half or 1/4 of what it was. Which is quite noticeable. That being said, is the reason why I say 50% more would be fine for me in the very least. After all why do the console versions have to be exactly like the pc anyway. lol
I like them being different or having differences.:D

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
After reading Tamor's comments, I'd like to suggest you throw in an option for a speed somewhere in between what we had and what we have now. Personally, I'd be happy with anything between 50% to 75% faster than it is now. Still - STRONG SUPPORT!!!
Thanks for the support all.
I'd like to know if there's any good reason why the minecart speed needs to match the speed on PC.
Because MANY people out there think that the PC version is the epitome of Minecraft perfection and any slight deviation from the PC version is inherently and objectively bad. I truly hope this changes at least some of their minds...
Now that I've got that off my chest...
I haven't actually tested out the new speed (except one part of the tutorial world, but that was somewhat small so I wouldn't go off of that), but I'd really like to see a direct comparison of the PC minecart with the Xbox minecart, and if they're the same, I don't see why it needs to be faster. People who play PC don't seem to complain constantly that you can sprint faster than a minecart goes, yet they're still used.
I suppose it just goes to show that you'll never be happy with what you have if you constantly compare it with what you could have.

More like comparing to what it was.... not could have. pc and xbox are two totally different things, and I actually prefer their being differences. I will granted continue to play both and not demand for something that one has but the other has not. Really I am not completely complaining about the change, just that it is a drastic change and quite as noticeable as the zombie nights on the pc.
My question is why does it have to be the same as the pc. Why does it matter... that is not the true comparison; at least not the one i was pointing out really, but more like what it use to be 2x to 4x the speed it is now. I only mentioned sprinting having a possible outrun because that is the only thing i could compare it to within the xbox edtion. I can't really compare the pc and xbox, cause they have a whole lot of differences already, that and many of the things work differently, as well I go about the two editions in a different way.
What I am getting at is not what could be good from the pc or what could be good to change in general, I am getting at why was it changed in the first place...? I do know the reason and to some degree it does fix a lot of the studder while riding them. I just think they could at least do 50% more speed without it breaking the reason they did it in the first place. But it is all hard to tell since I am not the one that programed this for that reason. Well I am sure there were many others, but all I am asking is it possible, within reason to do so.
That is my hope, I don't set myself up to be disappointed as I accept what they change, as I have to for the time being, it is their decision, but it is also nice when things are mentioned and put in due to people "complaining"; the opposite is also true. Either way it is all up to 4J in what they want to do. All we can do is suggest, If it goes in, it does, if not, better luck next time... At least we have what we do now.:D

Disregard large comments, post anyway.
I haven't been using them too much, but I have a feeling trapdoor sprint jumping is faster...so yes, some kind of speed boost would be all right.
Version exclusive, anyone?
Suggestion 2: Keep the new molasses speed, but add an option in the menu to revert to the old, useful speed.
Suggestion 3: Keep the turtle speed for current carts, but add a new fast minecart type which requires more rare resources to make. That would provide an incentive in survival to find redstone, gold, diamonds, or whatever it takes to make a truly useful cart.
Hmm...from reading the post 4jSteve been posting in the bug report thread, sounds like 4jstudios have no interest in changing minecart speeds. I just hope in the next feature update they give us fishing rods with carrots so we can ride pigs.

LMAO. In light of this revalation, I wonder if we can recoupe some of the former speed ourselves by adjusting the distances we put between power rails. Mine are 25 apart on the flats and I don't think I could actually sprint faster than a loaded cart travels. To the ones saying they could sprint a lot faster... I wonder how far apart are your power rails? Would it be worth a try to, say, move mine to every 15 or 20 apart? Has anyone tried doing this yet?
I think the speed was reduced because when you're on another world, and you go on a minecart, while you're travelling sometimes you run through unloaded parts of a world and makes you go all laggy.

Well I have mine about 9 apart. And I have actually tested it.. I can't tell entirely if I'm faster.. But at the very least I am par with it.

I don't agree. From reading those posts, I'd say 4jSteve has made it clear that the new speed is an intentional change, not a bug.
Like any suggestion, community support can be a major factor in making change happen. Personally, I find the new speed to be a serious downer.

Moot point now... 4J announced they're going to double it.
