So, what I've heard is that the reason 4j Studios hasn't added support for custom skins on Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition is that they're worried about getting in trouble with companies that copyrighted material portrayed on or by the skin. Yet all the skins on 4j's Skin packs are used with permission. So, if the player could customize their own skin using only approved material, wouldn't it be okay?
Basically, I am suggesting a built-in or for sale Skin Scrambling mechanism utilizing body parts such as capes, heads, torsos, arms, legs, wings, tails, hats, etc. all from skin packs you have purchased on MCX360. Imagine how many combinations there could be! For child-appropriateness, though, certain combinations would not be allowed so you don't create some sort of hermaphrodite humanoid.
How it would work is you select a button under "Change Skin" that reads "Create New Skin". Upon selecting you would be sent to a GUI consisting of the normal skin browser, a help button, a save button, a cancel button, a back button, a "N/A" button that allows you to skip putting on a cape etc. (this button is grayed out when the TTAYFACBP asks for arms, legs, a torso or head), a thing that asks you for a certain body part (abreviated to TTAYFACBP, remember that), and a 3D preview of what you've created so far. Basically, the TTAYFACBP ask you for legs, you select a skin on the skin browser that has legs that you want on your skin. Then, on the 3D preview, you're newly selected legs will appear. Next, the TTAYFACBP will ask for another body part, say a torso, and the process continues (you can press "N/A" if you don't want a cape or un-necessary accesory of that sort). Once you're done, press "Save" and you're skin will appear in either "Favorites", or a "Custom Skins" tab, if such is created.
What's better? Building sand castles of understanding and compromise that will fall to the slightest wind of change? Or will you build your beliefs with steel and remain immovable against the elements?
To summarize.. again.. if we had a skin editor, they wouldn't be able to sell skin packs. Its not about copyright, its about revenue. Think about it, does Mojang get sued? Of course not.

Nintendo knows mojang has no control over their minecraft community. It is on a closed source service where they can sue for copyright purposes.

And again, in my example, when the closed source provides a tool for the community to make things on their own, they also cannot sue for copyright (and succeed anyway). Soul Calibur V is on the exact same "closed source service" (Xbox Live, PSN) and yet Namco Bandai has never, nor will ever be sued by Nintendo or anyone else because its players use the toolkit to make their characters.
4J giving us a paint kit to make a texture on a model is not a violation of anything. If they sold us the model without permission, that is a violation.
Don't get me wrong, I'd be all over a skin editor. I love creating things like that in both the games I mention. I'm just trying to point out the reasons why we'll never see one. Or at least not for a long time, closer to the end of development, should that ever happen.
I have never heard of a person who doesn't obssessively want some variation of custom skins on MCX360. I'm impressed.
Well, now you've heard of two. Most of the time, I don't even bother changing my skin at all. I play mostly in first person view and, therefore, don't see myself... so I really don't care what I look like. On games that offer a lot of customization options, I usually opt for the quick select button and get on with playing the game.
I believe that fear of players infringing on copyrights is probably just a small portion of the reasons why 4J hasn't added a skin editor yet. A lot of things being demanded instantly by people are just stuff on the PC that came out later than the version we're currently at or stuff that has been deferred because 4J estimates that they'll need the RAM and processing space on the system to handle other things that they want to add from the PC down the road.
Still, a totally random skin scrambler (no added options to eliminate capes and things like that) probably wouldn't take all the much additional programming and/or processing to implement... and it might be fun... watching people loading and reloading and reloading to randomly get a skin they like... sort of like they do standing in front of an enchanting table now. Meanwhile, I, as basic Steve, will be enjoying actually playing the game.
Or just release Accessories for the skins so that way when we mixed the skins it wouldn't look like garbage unless they went over every single skin scrambled with another. That's a long time O.o . Accessory packs: come with 5 different suits, 10 different hats, 10 different capes, 5 different poses (like the bad santa one.), 10 unnatural body features (horns, tails, wings, etc). This seems like a much better approach on more customization in skins.

WOAH WOAH WOAH WOAH WOAH. The skin scrambler (which is different than a skin editor, btw) would be based off of skins from skin packs you own, so the more skin packs you have, the more combinations you can make. And skins in Skin Packs do not contain any copyrighted material. Plz read the topic before you comment; the entire point of this topic was to avoid these issues.

Forza 4 would beg to differ.
