I know that the book and quill item is in very high demand on the xbox360 edtion forums, but just bare with me on this one.
I have a server on minecraft xbox, its a city and it has a library and I like to have the books on here not for what microsoft fears of, "Free speech" but to make stories on Minecraft. I have a list of books below of all the books I am going to make in minecraft if Mojang ever does add the book and quill on the 360
Story of Herobrine
Story of Notch
How to craft recipes
books on (Passive) and (Hostile) mobs
books on the Nether and the End worlds.
since me and friend are the founders of the city we also made the books of (The Founding Fathers of Prosser City) witch is my server.

It actually the opposite it's very low demand on here. You hear more people talking about texture packs, adding things to the oceans, adding animals / plants and mods as dlc. I think I read a a different thread yesterday though about the books and quills. Somebody posted saying 4jstudios wouldn't be adding it because it would be too much typing and everybody on the xbox 360 doesn't have a keypad or usb keyboard.
@blueden I have a gaming keyboard and it works just fine on the Xbox. So if people at 4JStudios are concerned about fingers getting tired, they're wrong.

Although 4J said that they would not add it because not everyone had a keyboard, I think there are possibly other reasons.
1) Microsoft employs a language filter on the game and depending on how this filter works, using it on a significant amount of text may cause an inordinate amount of lag.
2) Adding text completely interrupts play for all players playing in splitscreen mode. It's already very irritating whenever one player in a 4-player splitscreen game has to write up a sign. Without a chaptpad, some players I play with can already seem to take forever while the other players in the game can only sit and watch them type. With books, this interruption would not only occur whenever the book's author wants to write, but also occur whenever the book is opened to read... and each interruption would last quite a bit longer.

Have you ever played skyrim there's like I've a thousand books

No... and from what you're saying, I certainly would not want to play it with you because then I would have to read your thousand tomes. I would particularly hate it if my friend joined in splitscreen after I was done reading and then I would have to sit and twiddle my thumbs while he read your tomes since my side the the screen would be covered over with the text of a thousand books... and then if another friend came over to play and had to read them as well... (Well, actually by then, I probably would have given up on playing at all and gone outside to mow the lawn or something like that.

No I was saying that minecraft can handle books without laging if skyrim can
isn't skyrim single player though? at least I thought so.
The issue I bet is not that it can not be done, it is what it does. As what up has mentioned anybody that would create a book would cause any split screen player having to wait a bit until the book is finished.
The way they could do for opening could be like the crafting menu on split screen even if not really all that desired, but could be only shown in the screen of the player that opened it in the first place. That much could be done. Although can't say much on how well anyone would be able to read them, due to size constraints and not everybody having a really large tv.
The main problem would probably be what up pointed out, which is the filter having to do so much text in one go. That would be the biggest beyond the split screen initial creation of the book.
As much as I personally wouldn't mind having such a feature in the game I can live without it; or rather would take being able to play multiplayer smoothly over the lag that this feature would have a possibility to cause. There are probably more reasons beyond what has been mentioned, but 4J hasn't said much on the matter.
This has been discussed many many times in the past. If they do decide to put it in, which they have mentioned they won't, I would welcome it, but since they won't it is none of my concern as there are a lot of features that are way more feasible to put in.:D

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
Instead of book they should just put notes like one peice of paper you can fill with writing and like tamorr said I t would be like a crafting menus so I t would only pop up on the player using it
I think Book and Quill is such a nice feature to have... I don't want to be forced to play the PC version just to make my gigantic underground library. Heck, if I didn't aleadry had a USB keyboard I would gladly buy one for this feature alone!
If not in the 360 version then perhpas in the XBOX one version?
