After all it could need it glass and leather. Glass in the center and 1 leather piece in the spots Up, down, left, and right of the glass. So in this way we would still need a crafting table.
Whether it is feasible for the game, I really don't know. I think it would be nice, as I can see the disadvantage of them being that when in use you would be moving at crouching speed, if at all. Kind of like how you eat and walk at the same time where you slow down when eating.
In that way you would have to think before you look. Other than that, it could be like a circle in the screen when in use, while the outside of the circle opaque/black to give the effect of you are using binoculars. However i think I see a portable telescope or what ever they called it back in the middle ages more than this; I think it was called Looking glass or something like that.
Binoculars themself would not make much sense and a bit more modern for my taste. So having something that still does the same thing would be fine. It will have a zoom in within that circle of vision, but not extreme enough to be eagle vision or rifle scope vision. The only thing I can think of that would be similar is what a pc mod does with it; ie Optifine.

You're thinking of a spyglass..yeah it would help.. especially if your looking for food to hunt and dont want to leave the safety of your tower/stronghold
Well not too much to think about, I'm not going into serious detail. Just a pair of binoculars, they help you see from far away right?
Considering among a list of exclusive content 4J Studios could add this has around a 2.1% Chance of being added. (That's not correct, I just guessed 2.1%. If you want to correct me go ahead, I could care less)
Anyways, before anybody starts getting mad and asking me why I even commented it is because I actually like the idea and support it.

ah yes, that is what it is called. Either or would be fine. Just something to zoom in with its' own disadvantages, that should be obvious, and advantages, again obvious, would be fine by me.
I think I was the only one that even suggested at least an addition to what the OP said... After all even binoculars could be made with leather & glass. Maybe with a bit of iron.
Leather could go in the 4 corners & middle,
glass could be on the left and right side,
and iron bar in the top and bottom.
So would be:

Still think there should be a bit of the screen blackened, to show that you are looking through the binoculars. I like having those kind of effects... If not it would be fine just having a regular zoom, as long it is not extreme.

I agree with the spyglass over binoculars now that you mention it. People have already posted recipe for craft.. pretty basic.. 2 glass and 1 leather would work. Not a lot of explanation needed in my opinion.. its a zoom feature.. what else would you use it for? As far as where you can find them they could be thrown in random chests in caves I suppose or crafted which would be the easiest way imo. I found myself on top of a mountain the other day and was glancing all around down below and thought how nice would it be if I could zoom in and kinda scout which location looked better instead of having to run down then all around the mountain. Was just a thought I guess.
also don't think I personally would be running around with it in use... more for evaluating areas from a safe spot
well that is the idea I had in mind when reading your original post, even if I did add onto it a bit. After all the primary disadvantage would be the fact that you will be moving slowly if at all. So sense of danger, mean scout the immediate area before using to ensure you don't get blown up for using it...lol
Haven't really seen a recipe for either, but I can come up with plenty ways to go about it with what we have.:D
1 piece of leather doesn't sound right though for the spyglass, at least from a logical standpoint.2 glass would be fine, those being on the top and bottom center and leather could be all the left and right side (total 6). Reason for doing it that way, I have always thought about recipes to at least be in the form of what you are crafting instead of what is needed just thrown in there...

I'd like this.. But I don't think it really could be implemented.. Cause.. It's like your character can't see past a certain point anyway. So could he just zoom into that point? Which isn't really that far anyhow? Especially if you're not the host of the game..

it is a usable item that allows you to zoom in on a point. have you ever used a scope of some kind in real life. Well same concept. The exception is that you will be able to see something that appears like a creeper stuck could be a cactus floating when you zoom in. Not every bodies eyes are that keen.
Just makes it easier to see like down a gorge or ravine to see if what you actually are seeing is what you are seeing. I mean up close if you were cliff hanging you would not need to zoom because it is there right before you; however something that is off in the distance from like a ledge you might not even notice or even recognize it for what it is right away, untill you move closer. This makes it so you can see without having to move closer, and make sure it is worth getting or worth the trouble.
Also another example is when looking for a location(s) to build, the best spot to be is on a mountain looking down. If you had a scope up there you could notice if there is a feasible spot or holes that might lead elsewhere. I have seen many people fall into a 1x1 hole without looking. At least you could scout to see where these are and avoid, if not attempt to build over them.
There are a lot of uses. spotting something before it spots you for example. sometimes it is hard to tell the difference at night time, unless you have your brightness all the way up. even then sometimes at a glance something might not be noticed. Actively looking is one thing, but actively look closely could help distinguish. Wasn't that the idea of a scope in the first place, or spy glass...lol

Just a thought to add to the spyglass... also have a mounted parascope to keep at your stronghold the recipe for that would be 2 spyglasses.. wood ( cant decide if stick or block) and three iron for the legs...

Obviously these things would be mounted on the highest point on or near your chosen stronghold... perhaps on a watchtower you could build if you are in a flatish area...
the advantages over the standard spyglass is the ability to see farther... the disadvantage is the fact you cannot move with it, since it is mounted.
However I think it would be safe to say you could break it down and re-locate it to wherever you want it.
in quite a few instances I would agree, but those that use a high brightness level night vision just is plan useless. Well maybe not useless more not as useful. Things tend to blend in, even during the day. and that is kinda' the concept I have in mind. Mainly just so I could scout in a different way before moving to that location. I would be able to determine whether I want to go to it or not without having to go there physically. Things are better close up and first hand, but the spy glass would at least give a better idea of the area before traversing it. After all it is just an idea meant for multiple purposes...

I like the idea of having a mounted one. That would be cool.
I feel like if we start getting into night vision then its gonna be too modern and I've always felt the game has somewhat of a premodern feel to it. with the exception of redstone kinda being like electricity.
