Adding Emeralds into the Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition would open a wide range of new
opportunities. Things such as trading with NPC villagers would make the NPC villages much more useful as they are in the PC version. Also, the introduction of Emerald tools & Armor could change the dynamic of the game and make trading with villagers an essential part of the game.
In the PC version, Emeralds can be found in the extreme hills biome. They can also be obtained by trading items with villagers. They can be received for items in a players inventory or traded for an item that the villager offers. To trade with villagers players must click on the villager and place the item they wish to trade in the trading menu.
Currently, The NPC villagers are useless in that they cannot trade any items because there are no emeralds present in the latest version of Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition. Unfortunately it doesn't seem that emeralds will be added in TU12. Despite this setback, hopefully 4J studios will look into adding emeralds into a near future update.
Something new to the PC version as well as the Xbox Edition and Pocket Edition would be the introduction of Emerald Tools & Armor. I acknowledge right off the bat that emeralds are not as durable as diamond. However, due to the poor trades from NPC villagers there should be another use for the "rarest mineral in the world of Minecraft." When the Xbox 360 Edition adds emeralds to its arsenal of minerals available in the world, it would be a great idea to have emeralds involved in a crafting recipe.
Because Diamond is acknowledgably the most durable mineral in the game it would be foolish to make an emerald last longer than a diamond tool or Armor. With this in mind, I believe the durability would be between that of iron and diamond. But because it is (When Xbox Updates) the rarest mineral found in a world it should be given some advantage over diamond. Similar to gold, Emerald will mine faster but will have a lower durability than diamond.

One thing I'd like is to trade more things for emeralds, I always just throwing out stacks of seeds from the wheat and rotten flesh from the zombies, those are the two things your expected to do in a village.
Villagers should buy rotten flesh as a sort of bounty for protecting them.
Seeds are just annoying.
Maybe just put anything in the left side and if you have enough you get an emerald, it could be up to two stacks max of anything for a single emerald, so its pretty damn balanced.

I put my shirt on one leg at a time, just like everybody else.
I see the tools working, but I think due to the nature of how armor works that not many people would consider using the emeralds for making armor, but that may just be me...
I understand that players would definitely not invest their emeralds into making armor; however, seeing that every other resource (wood, stone, iron, gold, diamond) has tools with a matching set of armor it would only make sense to do the same with emeralds.
How about emerald encrusted diamond armor? It could then be as durable as diamond and use fewer emeralds to make, but with a magical power to weaken the enemy. I.e. When a player wearing the armor is struck by the enemy, a random amount of the damage is reflected back at the striker damaging them instead (similar to the thorns enchantment).

That could work.. Maybe the more emeralds used in the recipe the more damage it would do? Sounds a little "Skrimesque." Hahaha
I support this, but find a better use if half the crafting recipes with emeralds would be emeralds and the other half would be diamond. That way you can't just get unlimited emeralds from easy village trading and it requires diamonds. Idk, just a suggestion.
Why not use the emeralds in a gold recipe to make bejewel'd Gold gear, while can be better than iron but still less than gold and would make it where iron tools can no longer pick diamonds( because when I frist heard of this game I always asumed that Gold was better than iron all around.. lol noobish thoughts are noobish)

As mentioned earlier I do like the idea of having emeralds involved in a recipe with a more difficult item to obtain.. Now it depends on which tools/armor should have emerald involved in their recipe..
i like the emerald with gold idea. It would make the gold armor last longer(Because we all know that gold has a low durability) and make it look color with like green somehow put into it. You should also be able to make crowns with gold and emeralds and you could use it to make villagers your army by using it on them and giving them a sword or bow.
I would normally support but I will give a logical reason why I won't. There won't be enough emeralds in the world. Our mountain biomes are small, and emeralds would be so far spread out in there. Unless they were changed to be like iron in vein size and spawn frequency, this wouldn't be worth it. Oh, actually, you could buy them from the villagers, Actually, support.

But I'll be spending my emeralds on cookies!
