This might actually belong in "small suggestions"... it might also have been suggested, though I didn't find it in a quick look. Anyway:
Presumably there are numbers that control various things about the world -- when/where caves are generated, how much water there is, that kind of thing. It would be good to expose those (or some abstraction of those) in the world generation UI so we can set them the way we like, not just the current regular or super-flat world options.
For example:
Cave frequency: common - normal - scarce - none - random
Cave size: endless - moderate - small- random
Ravine frequency: common - normal - scarce - none- random
Water percentage: all - most - average - little - none- random
All of these would default to random, and you could set the slider to any of the other options, just like with the current peaceful/easy/normal/hard mode setting.
This would be a quick & easy update, since the numbers already exist for world generation; they would just need to be incorporated into the UI (probably in a secondary menu like the one for bonus chests, etc.)
All sorts of things could go in there: Percentages of various types of biomes. Steepness of mountains. Depth of oceans. Frequency of minerals. Well, maybe not that, we'd all leave diamonds and gold turned all the way up. But maybe something for more/less soil over the stone, that kind of thing. I figure the equations that generate the world are full of settings for things like that. It would be awesome if Mojang and 4J put them out in the open so we can play with them.
I'd love the option of a world with lots of little caves, for instance. A lot of the things we try to find seeds for ... "does anyone have a seed that generates all snow?" ... we could just set with those settings.
Won't be a quick update, and im sure of that. This is a very good idea! though! But i have a feeling that there's something wrong but i can't put my finger on it.
