I have an idea
what if you can take a diamond pickaxe and 2 obsidian then it would be tipped with obsidian
It would last longer than a normal diamond pic and Twice as efficient
Same goes with axes and shovels But swords would be stronger and last longer
What do you think?

Shovels can already insta-break shovelable blocks with Efficiency III.
A Sharpness IV Diamond Sword has a standard range of 5.5~9.5 hearts per hit. This excludes critical and Fire Aspect.
In addition, Unbreaking III tools have a durability of approximately 6,000 hits.
I think that's more than enough to get by.

I couldn't agree more, the idea of this sounds amazing. It's new and a diamond pickaxe soaked in obsidian would look beautiful. But when it comes down to it, it most likely will not be added because of what BloodyPhoenix said... it would just be too over powered and easy to obtain. This is an interesting idea, it's possible and has been thought of many time before! But expect it to never happen.
I wish they'd add something new. Diamonds are getting a little worn out haha. Still an exciting find though.
I know, obsidian would be really cool for armor, equipment and tools! It'd seem almost forever lasting, but sadly I don't see this happening. Maybe during or after TU12 4J studios will meet with Mojang and Microsoft and try to work out something unique and exclusive just for the Xbox!

Hopefully! I think what will happen is they'll sort of catch up with PC then go their own way.
This is in some way a duplicate suggestion. There is a thread about obsidian tools.
They probably don't know that hahah. No one's going to look all the way through a forum to see if they accidentally copied someones post. And it doesn't matter anyway, he has a good idea, it's good to know you're not alone.
The only way something like this could be added without being extremely overpowered would be for every tool, weapon, and armor tier before it to be dumbed down and nerfed.
