Might not sound handy but the frying pan could be used as a weapon to fend of your self and it could be used for easy cooking and could cook more than one thing at once! If you placed chicken on the frying pan it would be fried chicken and if you put pork it would be bacon and if you put a egg FRIED EGGS!!! The food items would restore 1/2 of a hunger bar more than if furnace cooked because they been fried with oil and they're fatty meaning a longer time before you get hungry! To cook on it just place a furnace and put a fossil fuel (coal, wood, ect.) in the place you would normally put it in the furnace then place the frying pan on top of the furnace then put 3 or less meats and it'll fry! This would be how to craft it-

But... Maybe... Whale blubber oil? Whaling harpoons which you can attach lead to so the whale can't run. They shouldn't spawn very often but you should be able to lead them to shore in a boat once they're almost dead for easier collection of the massive amounts of blubber and meat they should drop signalled by him changing the tone of his whale cry to exhausted and slow.
Maybe we could get a bigger whaling boat?

Thats a very good idea, but that's a little too much coding i believe for 4j, so i think fish oil will do since fish doesn't realy have a purose other than eatng...

That's alot easier I'd be fine with fish oil.

Here's an idea; when used as a weapon, a frying pan doesn't do damage, just 'stuns' the mob for a bit (can't move). Would actually be GREAT on creepers! ;-)

If you can hurt things with your fist I think you can hurt it with a cast iron pan, good idea though stunning would be great.

It's easy enough to cook food in Minecraft already. Cobblestone is overabundant and any wood or coal can be used for fuel, so I would rather have 4J work on something practical. There really just is no need to make new items and pieces to use them when cooking itself is more simple already.

There it is... simple. Do you think Minecraft would be Minecraft if it were just simple? NO! If you would read the whoooole topic and comments you would see that a frying pan is more than you think it is. It opens more opportunities for the uses of fish which recently Dinnerbone tweeted that people are saying fishig is boring and too SIMPLE. And for all those people who want more weapons here's one! From a coder's point of view, including all the things that you "want" this frying pan to be capable of would be a nightmare. A restructure of the hunger bar and how it functions, adding a new tier weapon, adding effects for already coded items, and making new items to go with them... no thanks. I would much rather have 4J be working on something practical (desert/jungle temples, mob bosses ex:wither, witch, texture packs, the redstone update, and the horse update). Opinions are opinions and just that, but for the time being I believe there is just no practicality in having frying pans. Sure, one can argue that getting and cooking food has no fun or value to it, but going to the grocery store and getting it in real life isn't a blast either. Food is to survive, it's not your best friend and its not the most fun you are going to have all day, sorry to burst the bubble. To say Minecraft isn't simple is saying that one turd is better smelling than another, since the game is made from basic blocks and has easy mechanics. The "best" minecrafters are the ones who think these (simple) features are enough and learn to make amazing structures and mechanics.

I've been coding for two years and three months, and i dont believe that the hunger bar is going to be restructured, its just that the new items are going to have a different hunger value than usual which will be easy to code, basically your making a new item with the same structure of its uncooked self but it just has a different texture, which is not hard to make, and the stats value of hunger bar will be changed. Not much work. The only thing that would be hard is making the frying pan, which you'll have to start from scratch, but i think 4j won't have a problem with this as long as we can be patient. 4J Tweeted that horses will be in a later update, and they'll have to start from scratch coding a horse also looking at Mojangs coding of the PC horse. Also i really haven't heard the "best" Minecrafters
thinking these "simple" features are okay, such as RADIOACTIVE (cant remember his full forums name) who posted a thread called "There shall be war!" which is actually a hot topic and it speaks of new weapons that should be added. Many people commented that it was a good idea so why isn't this a good idea? If you constantly read the posts that don't disagree about this idea, you'll see that a frying pan brings a whole different opportunity for items like fish. I really dont see this as a "bad" idea but your opinion is your opinion. Go with it.
