In Minecraft, obsidian is very hard. Harder than diamond. This makes it the perfect item to make tools out of but we can't. In real life, obsidian is glassy and sharp, which makes it a good option for arrowheads, and swords. We could use this option for weapons and tools because you need to find diamond to obtain obsidian, and obsidian is renewable. An obsidian pickaxe should be able to mine obsidian though. Please support! I do not want to mine for diamond to mine obsidian.
Diamonds: Rare, strong. A suit of armour and tools is an accomplishment.
Obsisian: Rediculously common in low caves. A suit would take 3 minutes to make.
New tiers: No thanks.

what about just an obsidian pick. unenchantable only mines obsidian and it mines it at a decent speed (because even with a diamon pick need an enchantment to mine at a desent speed)
But a pickaxe made of rocks makes sense? Yeah right. It already makes no sense why we don't already have it. Yow can eventually waste all of the diamonds in a world, but you will never waste all of the obsidian because it is renewable.
Every tier has its ups and downs. Wood, very easy to make, but sucks in every other way. Stone, very easy to make, but with slow mine speeds and low durability. Iron, fast mining speeds, sort of easy to make, but a low-ish durability. Diamond, great in every way except the most hard to make. Obsidian would have it's ups and downs too. Like maybe it should take a long time to mine blocks, but high durability. If you think about it, diamond should be renewable. In real life, people convert coal to diamond by adding heat and pressure. I would say either make diamond renewable, or add obsidian tools and weapons.
IRL making synthetic diamond requires a seed doesn't it?
I think it's probably a start point for the carbon structure to form onto.
I few were going to have renewable diamond it should be 1 diamond in crafting table and 8 blocks of the new coal block around it.
Then pistons on all sides for compression.
After maybe eight or so minutes grab your new diamond block.

I put my shirt on one leg at a time, just like everybody else.

it's not harder than Diamond, if it was diamonds wouldn't be able to brake it
rocks are harder than wood, diamond is harder than iron, iron is harder than stone, point proven.
Edit: Wood is harder than your fist. That argument is invalid.

You can run out of coal in minecraft, maybe you could also use charcoal?

Everyone's talking about "running out" of materials. There's no need for such talk, as I have yet to hear about someone mining every single [insert ore here].
There are thousands of diamonds on one map if you do the math. Think of how common coal/iron are. There must be somewhere near the hundreds of thousands of each of those.
Now, using the logic I stated above, I think obsidian tools/armor is pointless. Yes, diamonds might be kind of hard to find if you don't know any mining methods, but that's not the developer's fault.
I think it would be really cool to have more exculsive things on Xbox. The only exclusive item on the Xbox is the Ender Acid that the Ender Dragon uses. I've been looking around for some Mods for PC and i've found a few for 1.5.1, but since you cant get mods on Xbox, it would be pretty awesome.

They're pointless for one....
They'd have to be heavily nerfed if they were to be implemented, too.

Not pointless just OP.
Diamond already lasts ages.
And how hard is that to find?
Not bad, really.
I could mine about 80~100 stacks of Obsidian from the End.
I have potentially 6 stacks of Diamonds (64 ore and app. 2 stacks).
