Since XBLA version is supposed to split from PC MC at some point this seems feasible...
Worlds are generated mathematically from seeds. We all know this so eh, cool. Makes it easy to have 10 people get the exact same world generated. It works, no complaints.
The problem I have and this suggestion is... having to spawn a ton of worlds to find one you like because you really get about zero input on the world.
To fix this... there should be "advanced" options for world generation beyond what is there today.
Main option categories:
Biome Selection: checkboxes for which biomes you want [or don't want] in the world
Biome %: List of biomes from above and what % of the world they should occupy, for example, if you want 100% snow and nothing else you could pick only the snow biome and set slider to 100%
Biome Settings: This would only be applicable to certain biomes, well mostly mountain/hill biomes... option to set max height and average height for hills/mountains. Could be used for forest/snow/swamp biomes to set tree density.
Generate Structures: Mostly the same as current but allow a slider to pick how many villages you would like and split out stronghold/abandoned mines from this to also have sliders for generated numbers. 10 villages, 2 strongholds, and a dozen abandoned mines? No problem!
Aside from this will, of course, still be seed-generated worlds and the random "give me whatever you want" randomly generated worlds that we have now. In theory, once generated by the above parameters there would be a seed generated as well so you could still share your seed with others as we do today.
Ya it is one of those "could be real easy or insanely difficult" ideas. Depending how they do the world generation it could mean a total re-write of that code [which puts it into the "probably will never happen" realm].
Heck I'd even be happy if they would have the option to show us a world map of the seed before generation.
There is no hill biome.... That is an attribute attached to specific biomes like the snow, forest, and plains biome. Where as some have hills and some don't.
So having the biome settings doing density would leave those with default generation in the hills attribute if it were to be density instead. So it might be better to have that part a separate slider within that section.
Overall the idea is good although I could have sworn I have seen this or similar posted already... Either way I would love to have the option to do this. There could be a check box when checked opens up these options or just a button that leads to another window that pops up with those options to set.:D
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
I'd love to see the seed before I go into it haha. I HATE spawning in snow biomes and forests that are never ending haha.
I would think this would be fairly easy to implement or at least have a "give full map" checkbox so when the world first loads we can look at the map to see what the random hat gave us without having to run around and map it all out. It could be tied to the "host options" along with invisibility and disable leaderboard rankings if needed. Should be the default for Creative maps.
