It's annoying not knowing where you are in the nether, for whatever reason.
There's no reason why we can't have a nether map. Perhaps if you just take a map to a enchanting table and with a certain level you can enchant the map so it can be used in the nether?
Nether maps already exist in the game and have existed in the game since Day 1. All you have to do is take the ingredients to craft a map into the nether and then craft that map while you're in the nether.

Unless you Pearl-clip through the roof and go to all four corners, you'll never fully complete the map.
From there, you'll need to commit suicide to get out.
Either way, don't expect to see anything useful of the Nether map. It'll look pretty, but it's not that useful.

You can get back from the roof. Go to the edge, throw an ender pearl in the side, and you will glitch inside the airbarrier, and throw ender pearls at the bedrock next to you and you're in!

I agree... there is nothing really visually useful about a nether map... however, they do show the numerical coordinates of where you're standing... which can be somewhat useful for re-locating your portal and such.

yet? well that is because it was there since the beginning... I have made the maps plenty of times myself, although like the others have said the only real thing that is of any use is the coordinates...:D
