A Magic Gem is the base of magic. It is very expensive to make. Here is the crafting recipe.

Wizard Staff

In order to use a magic gem, you'll need to craft a wizard staff which would be like this.

On its own, a staff only shoots regular magic, which does 3 hearts of damage. It is a ranged weapon like a bow. You can upgrade your staff, using certain items.

Fire Staff- casts a spell that lights mobs on fire, can also be used to light up areas for a limited time

I'll try to think of some more magic-related weapons and items. I'm still working on this.
I like the way skyrims magic works how its cast with your hands.
But I feel a spell select system and etc would be clunky.
I'm kinda on the edge of magic in minecraft, enchanting it great on its own.
Not sure if more is needed.
I also want you to know that emeralds are far rarer than diamonds, finding four emeralds would be a real challenge without trading as they're only found in mountain biomes in vines of just a single block which spawn about as often as a diamond vien.
So even if you have a mountain biome it's gonna be about 4 or so times rarer than diamond because 4 is a common diamond vien size.
