Many of us would like to log our adventure in a book, so that one day we can read it and remember the awesome things, or even let friends read it. This even allows for making stories for adventure maps, like "if it is night time, read story 5, if it is day then read this page", the possibilities are infinite. This is an important part of the game and to me it gives the game purpose, the thrill of surviving and having to write down what happens to keep sane, (I like to immerse myself). Many of us don't mind typing with a controller, and there is even a keyboard attachment for controllers. Please bring the Book and Quill forward because it would make everything funner. There will obviously be haters as always so ignore them, a lot of us want this. We even have all materials to craft it so I don't see why not.
hahahaha then screw this crappy game. i've been soo bored of it and i'm not even caring about the updates. book and quill is what I was excited for, so I guess i'm done with this game. thanks for the info
hmm... I guess pencil/pen & paper is outdated...O_o
If I wanted to write something about my adventures I would actually write about it on a piece of paper and put it all together in one place. I do see the point of having it in game, but since I know it is not going to be... No biggy as I play the game for other reasons, and besides that is why I usually carry a pen with me at most times in real life. Eh... each to their own I guess.:D

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
Sadly I think this has more to do with the limitations imposed by the M$ language filter than the actual limitations of the game. If too many signs can cause problems then a few books could be game breaking.
I believe the issue is that saving and loading large amounts of text inside the game would take up far too much RAM that the Xbox just doesn't have. (ETA: While PCs were designed with handling text first and foremost, consoles were not designed with that purpose in mind. I sincerely doubt that the Xbox's OS is even remotely equipped to function with a word processor inside a game.)
Yeah, 4J said that they're debating whether to add this or not. I don't think the problem would really be memory, but it would be a bit tedious writing a whole story with nothing but an Xbox controller. If you noticed, that's also why we won't ever get PC crafting...

I think Paddy specifically said they were "struggling" with looking at it down the road and that he felt that it wouldn't work on the Xbox. He did mention that typing on a controller would cumbersome and that people might not want to really do it. He sounded pretty convinced that it would be something that would never work on the Xbox, so I tend to agree with MG`s take on it - I don`t think it will ever happen.
As MettleLust suggested, using a chatpad does make it easier to type using the controller (but, IMO, it's still not a good as a keyboard). With the issue with signs blanking out coming to light more recently, I tend to think that the real issue is more related to RAM and the way the Xbox OS`s and perhaps Live handles text.
As for PC crafting, it was not suggested that typing was the issue. Daniel Kaplan indicated that the issue there was that the PC version was more attuned to players being connected to the Wiki and that they felt that Xbox players would prefer not to have to look things up on the internet so they instead developed the Xbox crafting system which is more WSYWIG overall. Overall, they were suggesting that there are some things that typically Xbox players enjoy differently than typical PC players and that they want to focus the Xbox edition towards the typical Xbox players. So, as my first post on this thread suggested - the last thing I envision doing when sitting down on my couch to play an Xbox game is reading a set of memoires (or a book of any type really).

I believe you can hook up a usb keyboard to an Xbox.
I'd want book and quill only for adventure maps. It is a pain in the **** to write it all down on signs. Yay huge walls of texts >.>

It still doesn't resolve the issue IF the issue isn't really typing, but that the feature would use up an inordinate amount of RAM or if the Live filtering of text wouldn't handle the amount of text it might have to filter at one time. If the issues are built into the limitations of the Xbox itself, people can ask for it and gripe about not getting it until we're all blue in the face and it won't make it possible. If the reason that signs are blanking out is also RAM and filtering problems, then the PC-style of adventure map isn't going to work on the Xbox even if great walls of text are substituted for books. Perhaps a different style of adventure map needs to emerge specifically for the Xbox version - one that doesn't require huge amounts of text.
Yes, you can use a chat pad and yes you could use a USB keyboard. However, not everyone has these things. Paddy said that because not everyone has these things, they feel that it would be far to time consuming and cumbersome to type out a book with the controller and on screen keyboard.
I don't blame them. I wouldn't want it because of that and I'm not going to go out and buy a chat pad, or unplug my keyboard from my PC to use it on my Xbox 360. They may decide in the future if enough people want it, that using the controller and on screen keyboard is something people are willing to deal with. Since they're the developers, what they say goes.
While it's a bit of a shame that the book and quill won't grace Minecraft: XBOX 360 EDITION, it's certainly not game breaking or worth quitting the game over. This game is so much more than just adventure world, so it doesn't matter much.
I have to say that using a $10 usb keyboard to type into your XBox works just fine and you don't even have to open the text field in game while running Minecraft, just like in the pc version. I'm actually using my XBox to read this thread and typing my response through a usb keyboard right now. I feel that this is completely convenient to my needs.
I'd very much like to have the option to try and incorporate books w/ quills. Even with the MS filter, it would be better that working all of your details into 4 lines of 15 characters onto however many signs you need. Not to mention, the world loads the signs' text as soon as you're near enough to load it, but wouldn't that loading not be neccessary for a book? Since the game wouldn't need to recall the text until you activate the book? Considering how much it could do for exposition in adventure maps or clarity for collaborative servers, it would be a shame to not have the option...
I mean, not everyone wants to use Facebook exclusively to share their MCXBLA pictures with the internet, but they haven't bothered to offer us an alternative... I find that pretty inconvenient, moreso than unplugging a usb keyboard to move it from computer to XBox, at least.
Anyone agree?

Hi, I'm "Endo" and I play MCXBLA. Also, check out this Facebook page I made specifically for my MCXBLA pictures.
In short I can see why people want books for their adventure maps, with regards as Paddy his comment to not seeing people typing books through the interface... If they want to it's their choice isnt it? chatpads work great btw (allready great for signs, very easy in splitscreen with writing signs withhout interfering the other player(s)). Also smartglass could be used here.
Anyway, personally it's one of those features that's not really on my list of most wants, but the argument used not to implement it is kinda weak imho.
Yes - it they want to do it, they can want to do it. Please, if you're one of my friends, just don't ask me to read it. Reading signs on 4-player split screen is tough enough on the eyes. IF the Xbox actually can't handle the amount of text they're wanting, it won't change a thing. Will they then keep quiet with their Xbox freezing up solid every time they open a book or if they open their book and all the text is blank?
I agree with book and quill it would make more room for writing a longer text then just 4 lines I agree cause of (Economy) based games better for rules and more. But all we can do is suggest it lol.
4J said this at their panel at Minecon.

LMAO. The LAST think I want to do when I sit down to play an Xbox game with a friend is to read their memoires.
It's true. You can listen to the Minecon video here: http://www.gamespot....n-2012-6400548/

no kidding... couldn't tell ya how many times i've joined a server to all the signs blank... nevermind all the content you could cram into a book

When making adventure maps, putting signs everywhere to make storylines is utter garbage. Book and quill would make it better.
