No, I guess when you break it with either hands or shears, wheat comes out instead of the hay block. We could use hay in the Xbox edition of Minecraft, because, well...can be used for decoration, or a good way to store wheat, like the snowballs turned into a snow block to store it well.
and have hay stairs which would be like thatched roofing, which would be cool
I was originally going to comment that hay bales might wind up being about as useful as sponges... but this idea changed my line of thinking entirely. I would love some thatched roofing for my guest huts at my South Seas beach resort.
AT LAST. A guy who will make a beach resort. The sight of a nice beach relieves my stress.
Actually, my beach resort has been a WIP for almost a year now, so I have a huge, lovely old beach to work with. I do have the main hotel and beach volleyball court finished, along with some cabanas and lifeguard stations. I have an area set out for guest huts, but haven't built them yet... probably because it's difficult to get the right ambience without thatched roofing.

combine all the wheat you mine into a block and have it be bales of hay like you see on farms.
maybe have it be a style like.. a cake or something even where you just walk up to it and you can eat some of the wheat til it runs out.
