Please, don't suggest skinning animals alive... that's just, ugh! For 2 iron, the regular shears last a good long time. The addition of iron golums will make iron somewhat renewable. I really don't see any need to go to diamond ones.
Well thats kinda creative but just plain scary. SKINNING COWS ALIVE!!!!!! and like Up said iron ones are good enough and iron golems are just gonna create somewhat of a renewable iron source.
The only thing I think you could use diamond shears for, not including OP's suggestion .-., is to cut leaves and wool faster, which in the case of wool is impossible, and leaves it will be either a nearly unnoticeable improvement, or it will automatically cut the leaves instead of a bit of a delay. It could also last longer than regular shears, which is the only thing that sounds good to me.
This reminds me of the native americans when the pilgrims took residence. Some tribes actually scalped... so no not for live skinning... That is just wrong... well at least I think it is.
However the person above me mentioned something i can only see it ever being made for. To last longer than regular shears... that part I would at least make one for. Other than that Iron is fine, as that is not really all that difficult to find.:D

Hey, there's a way to get heads when they release them...... ( Wouldn't work on wither skellies though that would be OP )

that would be overpowered to begin with... insta kill zombies and skellies with diamond shears...O_o no.... I may play on easy, but that I can see as just plain non-sense...
I am totally unsure if heads will make it to the 360 version. Although wouldn't mind the flower pots and fences that added in 1.4...
I can not agree to that. As I said the only way I think that shears would be useful is longer use.... That would be the most liable.

Think I would rather the random chance of a head droping...from any attack that kills the mob, no matter what is used to kill it with.
Still ok for an added idea, but I know I wouldn't go out of my way to do it with shears, even if that would be the only way. shears I only use for certain things...

I don't see how this would be useful... Enchanting shears would probably be better.
Yes! Instead of diamond shears we should be able to enchant shears (something like unbreakable or efficiency), the only problem with this would be that there would only be those 2 enchantments because silk touch on shears would not work for anything and every other enchantment is useless for shears

who would want a bunch of wheat seeds...? O_o can't really think of anything else that shears are used on that drops a non-block.
Also silk touch on shears would be useful for spider webs...
I have to agree enchanted shears sounds even better than diamond. Unbreaking & silk touch would be the primary ones anyone would ever need. Shears tear through most things they are used on anyway, so efficiency would be much an improvement... but still able to have at least I or II of that on it. Any further would be not needed.

I was thinking that fortune would help with getting more wool, but then you pointed out that wool is a block...

I'm not sure that AcidNinja13 realizes that the leather is the cow's skin. Just imagine shearing the cow and then having it walk around as a meaty, bloody mess that would slowly die, mooing all the way. SOUNDS FUN TO ME!

actually the wool itself is a block. However the sheep it comes from is not. It is a mob, therefore it might work like looting on a sword. So that might be possible.
Fortune works on those blocks that give items. since sheep is a mob it could be made so fortune works as above, unless you want looting on the shears. Which would add another enchant, although useless because it only loots the one mob. So having fortune do what looting does when used on sheep the chance of wool would go up. Now that is an idea.
After all looting works by killing the mobs, where as fortune is geared more towards blocks. It could be called something different, but mind as well call it fortune, since looting a plant of seeds doesn't sound right. lol

That would kill the cow in the process, and it is not spelled Sheares as far as I remember.
Stay fluffy~
