Adding oceanic enemies would keep me out of the water and prevent me from finding the next landmass with a village. That also gives me another idea, Unique Ocean Biome types to keep specific mobs along with new undersea terrain like trenches.
Mermaids! They're passive unless you get within 10 blocks of them. Then, they attack in groups of 3-5 and can destroy boats! They'd only spawn in the ocean biome.

10 blocks is very close to the land hostile mobs which are 11 blocks hostility.
