I came up with the idea that power tools would be a cool idea. Like chainsaws for wood, hedge trimmers for leaf blocks, mining drills, tile saw, which can be used to make different types of tiles, snow blower, lawn mower, and maybe others. These tools would have infinite uses, but run on some kind of battery or fuel. The battery or fuel should last not long though. The engine would be eight iron around a Redstone. Once you have the engine, you craft the engine into a tool. Once you have the tool, it is just the tool. It is completely useless. You then have to craft it with a battery or a coal burner. The coal burner idea should burn coal in your inventory. The battery would last some time though. Durability would be replaced with having to fuel it. Batteries should be costly to make, and be rechargeable. The charger block would be costly. It has to be powered, and charge two batteries at once. It should take two mine craft days to charge. When the battery dies, the chainsaw should become a dead chainsaw. You craft the dead chainsaw into a useless chainsaw and a dead battery. You then recharge the battery and craft it into a powered chainsaw again. They should also be capable of doing massive damage. Kill a zombie in like three to four hits.
Chainsaw: Diamond Axe.
Trimmers: Shears are instant.
Mining drills: Eh, details.
Tiler: Details.
Snow blower: Shovel, water bucket.
Lawn mower: Water bucket.
Kill a zombie in 3-4 hits. Enchanted swords can do that in two.
All-in-all I see no point in any of these being added until I have more details and reason to see them in the game.
The chainsaw would be like creative mode fast and not break, shears break, mining drill, instant and not break, and swords break. These things have infinite uses, just need to be fueled.Snow blower would spit snowballs out the top too. Water doesn't do that. Lawn mower should retrieve more seeds. All details right there.Piston like block that instead of pushing the block, it destroys it. Helpful for collecting obsidian.
hmm I like the Idea but I also like MC the way it is in the tool department. If they added power tools it would start to feel like i'm playing terraria. XD

that was my first impression when first reading just the title...><
Then I started reading it... I personally don't really care much for the idea. If I wanted to chew threw blocks I would enchant or go completely creative and place what I broke.>< Well something like that. Like the person above and the person before that, I just don't see much reason to add such things, although it is a good idea, I just don't really like it myself...

Also the way minecraft is at the moment on xbox if you make a pic with Efficiency IV Unbreaking III Fortune II
It mines through anything: Stone, dirt, wood, sand, etc... In like one hit (they should fix this) but as of now it's not patched so get your leveling on and try to get that bad boy.
Remember this is Xbox so if you get to level 30 save the game and just back out if you don't get the enchant you want <---- cheating yes but who the hell is going to know or care what you do lol
I dont like the power tools idea, it feels like you are taking part of minecraft away but the rechargeable tools are a very good idea. Maybe you could make an advanced armor that has a "force field" and it doesnt takes durability. For every hit you take, the charge goes down and when the charge is in 0 you have to go and recharge it. Maybe we could also have sonic boots or something that needs energy and they work as normal boots but let you run 50% faster.
None of these tools would require diamond, just a load of iron. Unbreaking three will eventually break. The chainsaw would not.
Anvils would solve that problem. Then boom, unbreakable tools.
In all seriousness, I would never want automated anything in Minecraft beyond what can be created through the game already. Things like cobble generators are cool because they were accidental byproducts of the game design.
I don't want my Minecraft any more automated than that honestly. And yes, I know, if they were added I wouldn't have to use them.
I am not asking for anything automated. You still have to go out there to get the resources, but is an alternative to the old fashioned way. You don't have to tell it to mine from your house. They are tools that don't break on their own but need fuel.
I heard that engines started coming out not long after TNT came out, but it took into the 1900's for people to figure out oh damn, we can use this technology to transport people. Engines are older than cars.

This was mostly steampower.
Cars came around in the 1910s
Trains earlier.
Cars were unreliable, slow, and needed roads to get anywhere.
I think that the concept of engines was thought of by Davinci for him to design helicopters and stuff.
Just because its period correct doesn't mean it's good for minecraft.
I know we want more endgame things to do.
But end game stuff doesn't necessarily have to be better equipment.
Distractions like horses that you can take on halfway through.
Different weapons to stock up on like axes and muskets, crossbows etc.
More content should lie in mid game.
Not diamond tipped super saws with built in lazer acquired targeting systems.

That part kinda' scares me... well not really. But I agree with what you have said in this and the prior posts. I would prefer the journey to the end be extended than the end itself, as that would be redundant. The end is just that. Its' not like we get a game+ edition for minecraft, as that would in a way be redundant for an open ended game like this.
I am still not too fond of the power tool idea, as to me it would take away from what is minecraft, vanilla edition. This isn't tekkit or Terraria. also even if it where to increase to almost be instant like creative, I would much rather that be in creative, with the exception of enchantments which pretty much enable you to do almost just that. lol
That is roughly what I meant by what I said early. I love the world of fantasy & magic with a hint of tech (redstone), not the other way around. Just doesn't seem like minecraft if was like that. Practically a different game entirely. ><

The futuristic mods do a good job of I need some of this and then more of that and this to craft this one singular purpose thingamajootzit, atleast from the few lets plays I've seen of Tekkit.
I don't want vanilla one raft to be like that, I want it to be like ZOMG some plains lets find some horses.
Or check out my flashy poleaxe I'm a gonna make an armoury and arm some villagers. My point was minecraft is to be led by your own imagination, not some recipe on a website telling you how to spend your time.
A sandbox game shouldn't be played like your trying to put up a tent.

Well yeah... I've seen a few let's play of them as well... Looks more modernish or techy like. That is what I was getting at. The part about the fantasy/magic with a bit of tech is how my imagination looks at minecraft. In the age of the old empires long gone... Being an open ended game as such, it is the imagination that does drive it. Always something thought of with each terrain I run across and view. To imagine in a 3D or more of what I could do in each area, whether to keep the look or modify it a bit, if not down right change it to fit what I am building... usually though the former. Building with the terrain... instead of terraforming, although I do a bit of that on a small scale usually, namely when remodeling a village...lol
I like making a specific spot my home per say in the world, and every where else I just build what I feel like or imagine it to be. I believe I understood your point, I just I guess don't really have a way with words as I use to...>< hence my choppy description and scattered thought running along with each sentence...><
Although it is not a 100% agree, i do at least agree with most of what you were pointing out and the list was mainly those individual items that I was doting on... I think... Ok I guess I rambled enough...>< lol

There is more tech than fantasy and magic combined, so I dunno what you are talking about.
What is tech in minecraft?
The redstone, repeaters and pistons?
Everything else
Zombies, creepers, skeletons, giant spiders, golems.
Enchanting, brewing, end, nether
