What if you want snow and you don't have a snow biome! It should be like this. Biomes you check on the list become more vast. So if I check the Forest box, it will make about two thirds of the world forest. But, the rest of the world will be snow, desert, swamp, mountain, and plains all in one small space.

Whether or not you have a snow biome would be completely up to you, you'd just check the box. Want bigger snow biomes? Simply leave some of the other Biome boxes unchecked.

I believe it was Tamorr who came up with the idea of slidebars that would allow the percentage of individual biomes to be chosen. The slidebars would always have to add to 100%, but the user could adjust them individually to get a balance of biomes that pleases them. If they make selections of a small number of biomes that add to 100%, then the remaining slidebars for the "unselected" biomes would default to 0%. If the player's selections add to less than 100%, the remaining biomes could split the remainder among them on either an equal basis or a random one. Of course, for this to work, the game would have to be able to then generate the appropriate seed string on its own. Hopefully, the players could still override the biome selection option by typing in a seed string (so that we could still make duplicates of seeds and share seeds as we do currently).
Not sure I like this idea as a whole, as it would not get the exact or close to the amount of each I would want. Like up said the slider thing I mentioned in another post would actually help with that fine tuning of biome generation.
Having a percentage to choose is so much easier then to use check boxes. I for one like having all biomes in a world, but like having a certain percentage of each in order for me to actually like it or want to build there. That and certain looks of the map in general.
As well what up said, I believe if they were to add such a thing I think they would want to keep the input part in case people want to get back to a certain seed. At least it would make sense that way...lol Anyway the whole process of having a specific amount is the point of the entire generation. I just would love to have more control over what generates. Not to the point from block to block, as it has to keep some of the randomness...:D
So having a % slider is better than having a check box. Then again the check boxes could be there to reset or denounce said biome from the list that it has to figure out that 100%. But having only check boxes defeats the purpose of personal generation of your choosing. It is a bit too limited and only geared toward those that don't want something on the map, instead of those that want it but only a small amount. I hope I said that right...O_o unsure as I think I am confusing myself... Oh well, there will hopefully be a way about this in the future, or we could hope anyway.:D
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.

Check boxes were just a simple suggestion, slider bars would be better and allow for further control and customization.
I wished I had seen this thread sooner! (Or the one Tamorr suggested beforehand...)
I would definitely support these world generation features to be implemented into the game. Both the check boxes and slide bars to further the creative freedom of players starting new servers, with a certain insight on how they wish their world to generate. These ideas would be awesome!
Don't like snow biomes? Just leave the Snow Biome box unchecked, and BOOM! A world is generated with absolutely no snow biomes included.
Want a world that's just one huge forest? Leave only the Forest box checked, and there you go.
Hopefully this gets implemented sooner rather than later.

What about rivers, snow rivers and stuff?

yeah that is what I was thinking originally when i mentioned this before in another thread. Can't seem to find which one I did that in..><
The more control the better, but too much and it is well... I think most get the point if they understand what i said above...lol
We need full creative freedom.
We need some way to customize what biomes are generated in our worlds, and which are not.
