while working on my steam punk area, lots of wool and wood. i had an idea for a new kind of block. lightning rods. they could look some what like Tesla coils. and they can be place anywhere and will absorb lightning strikes within a certain radius. say 16x16.
they an also send out a redstone signal, this could be used to create a weather station. or just make lightning flickering lights for a haunted house.
also you could redirect the lightning using some other redstone device possibly..... into say a creeper. to create a super charged creepers for a battle arena.
Does It have lightning arcing all over the place?
That's what tesla coils do.
Maybe lightning rods attract and tesla coils give off, then you could also make solid beams of lightning as a security doorway.

I put my shirt on one leg at a time, just like everybody else.
. but i just meant visually it would look like some early scifi coil so it would be obvious it was meant for electrical use. and it would look cool as a decoration. but now youve expanded upon the idea and were just gonna snow ball from here. lol
coils and rods. both are omnidirectional, like pistons... meaning they can be placed upside down or oriented to any other axis and if you power a coil it will create an arc linked to a rod(placed facing the coil) that acts as ground for the circuit.... this would also be a cool way to transfer redstone signals vertically
that is a amazing idea. the only thing is I usually never loose anything in lightning strikes usually only one block at most since it usually rains whenever it lightnings,
That sounds really interesting... different for adding to the redstone compliant bit. That is what peeks my interest.
yea it could open a lot of new doors for redstone. think about it.. new security doors. new mob grinders, no inverters required to transfer power vertically and efficiently, and lots of other things i cant even think of . not to mention create a cool new visual element.

yea it usually goes out pretty quickly though once i saw a tree get hit on the side and it burnt downwards under the top layer of leaf blocks and the tree went up in smoke.. after that im cautious when it comes to lightning
If you power a coil it should be like those bulbs with arcs of electricity moving aroundthey would supercharge creepers, shock players.
I don't like the idea of it starting fires though.
If you have a rod within so many blocks, or directly infront of it at any range they should arc together instead of random flailing arcs.

i like redstone and miecraft tech how it is.
but i think lightning rods and coils still feel like old school tech and it could add some interesting new things to the world of redstone..
