I know this may be an odd suggestion, but I liked it better when you couldn't walk through them. In real life you can't just walk through a field of sugarcane so you shouldn't be able to in minecraft either.
I say no... I actually like it the way it is. not every thing has to be like in real life. Else we would not have blocky stuff...><
I like being able to harvest while standing in row. It is good enough that pistons actually cut them down, but if I want to chop them myself I would rather be able to faze through them. Since they really don't provide much cover they would be more of a nuisance when exploring. running and then having to go around the bushel because I could not jump it makes it take even longer.
Don't know about you but I always have maps with lots of sugarcane. It is not bamboo...><
Well that is my opinion..:D

Hmm this i a tricky one because on one hand I agree with Tammor it would be a hassle to people that don't make auto farms.
But, I would love to make a Maze of sugar cane again lol. I use to always make mazes outside of friends houses when they weren't on. Because one you have to get through the maze , and or 2 have to clean up all of it + the water hahaha

I used to use sugarcane as support for buildings and it looked really cool, but now it makes no sense to build with it because its so flimsy you can walk through it. It might seem more difficult to harvest, but honestly it wouldn't truly be that hard. On the topic of it being unique, it could be the first thing that sets the xbox version apart from the pc. From the begining 4j Studios said the xbox 360 version would be different, but so far its all the same and less. Solid sugarcane could be the first tweak that starts to set the xbox 360 version apart and on a different path.

You are new to the xbox version rigth? Right now we have lots of different things like ender acid, a music for the nether, being able to exit without saving, super-flat nether, etc...

On the pc version you can exit without saving, has much more music, reset the nether, and superflat it as well, it just isn't as easy as moving a slider like on the xbox and the ender acid is the only thing that really is a change. Also none of the things you stated were block changes which is what most people want because it adds more to do. Music and ender acid add no depth to the game just athstetics. I understand the solid sugarcane is sorta athstetic too but at least it would be a block change.

Hard no... Just more time consuming. I am use to walking through and cutting them down. Can't do that when they are solid. There are ways around that, but it also adds to the frustration of a possible replanting. After all we have lily pads. I chop at a certain level so they continue to grow. For big manual farms this could means you have to choose output vs. accessibility. Sure it would add a different way of thinking, but I prefer the walk through as I have other things I have to worry about in game than to do a bunch of farming. Sure I could make an auto harvest and all but not everyone does that.
I understand that 360 vs. pc should be different. They are and slowly getting further apart. Each I actually play a little bit differently. But the concept of the game for me is for things to be simple and relaxing to play, as that is how I play. I am a survival builder. To me it would be frustrating at times, maybe an exaggeration but any nuisance can stop me from playing the game that day and go onto something else. I would rather them add a new block that is similar with a bamboo design to it than change something with a crop that should be easy to walk through. Heck it could even be made with this sugarcane... That is my thoughts.:D

Tamorr I like your response it it certainly is the biggest problem with changing it back and I just used the wrong word when I said it would be hard. Im also a survival builder and I can see how this would be annoying now, and I like your idea for a new block like bamboo. If we can't have our soild sugarcane back then I think solid bamboo(maybe found in small patches in jungles and grown with bonemeal like trees) would be the next best option.
It's really something that would make no tangible difference to me either way. If they make it solid again, I'd just change again how I go about planting and harvesting it a little bit. Posts above talk about things that don't add any real depth to the game... well, I would put the difference between solid and non-solid sugarcane in that category.

What I meant by no depth was that none of the things theyve added are blocks and building is the "man point" of the game. If sugarcane was solid then it would be considered a block and technically add "depth". In a game like minecraft depth is given through blocks because the dragon can be defeated only once and then you get an egg that does absolutly nothing. Adding different blocks or making blocks different is the only thing that makes the game interesting past a certain point. Once youve fought the dragon youve done it a hundred times and the same can be said for the wither boss(not implemented yet) but at least it gives a useful item to make a block. I know that it seems like a small change but things being solid vs non-solid could make a huge difference to the game because its a block change.

I realize that is how you are defining depth in the game; but that is not how I define it. Depth to me would be something that would tangibly change the manner in which I play the game. Adding the End added significant depth to the game; but making sugarcane solid again would not since we already have growable items that are solid blocks (i.e. cacti), growable items that are not themselves solid blocks (i.e. melon plants and pumpkin plants) but that produce solid blocks (i.e. melons and pumpkins); and we already have growable items that are not solid blocks (i.e. wheat). We also have growable items that are have unique properties (i.e vines). Furthermore, the uses for sugarcane would not change if the block was made solid. As I said, it would change the way I plant them (i.e. I probably would leave a space between them more frequently instead of planting them in long rows) and harvest them (i.e. i would stand next to them rather than walking along inside the row). Neither of these changes I would make to adapt to a solid sugarcane block would be "deeply" significant.
It's not that I'm against it, it just doesn't matter to me much either way.
Let me know what you think.
But it makes it very unique also.
Stay fluffy~

I prefer Sugar Cane to remain non solid. I much prefer the way it is now.
In real life Mustache guy prefers sugar cane remained non solid.
