Is that the mode where it plays exactly like hard mode except upon death the world is deleted? Couldn't you just use an honor system?

Yes, but also creative is disabled and no bonus chest.

I don't care either way.
There really wouldn't be a difference since people would end up shutting off the system upon death.
Granted a few would go legit, meh....
