With the discussion of map sharing i thought of an idea. Its got alot of possible flaws but overall I think it would be good. So what if for us people that want to do group survival/hunger games/ pvp/ etc, they incorporated a game search. Say you wanted people to play Hunger Games with you, you could just make your own server (Which doesnt involve a server system, just your own) called "Hunger Games" and wait for anyone who wants to play to join your game. You could categorize it into different search options pvp/survival/creative so that if you wanted to play with other people you could search the game mode you want and then choose from the different matches open.
Possible flaws: Griefers- could join your game and just mess everything up
Mid Game leaving- If someone leaves mid game, no one could just randomly join.
Not enough Games- More people looking to join instead of host.
This of course is a bit overboard, A simple system where you could join random peoples games is really what Im trying to get across. I understand that it wouldnt be easy but I think it is definitely something 4J should strongly consider.
I dont know if this has been talked about before, if it has, sorry I brought it up again
Firstly, the thing is that Live is the driving force behind online gameplay on the Xbox. It provides the security for people's account information and I sincerely doubt that Microsoft would ever agree to allow any app to bypass it completely. Some sort of search function would have to be implemented for sure; but I think that may be one of the reasons why map sharing for Minecraft hasn't happened yet. Search engines use RAM and, right now, it's extra RAM that Minecraft can't afford to spare.

Thats a good point. I think map sharing would also be much more important
