It is entirely possible to make elevators from pistons and redstone.
Although it is not easy, a good tutorial and some practice in creative can teach you to be a master.
How do you make them, then? I've never heard of elevators in Minecraft except in mods and stuff, but they probably wouldn't have that mod for the right version anyways...

Ignore the mess.. it was part of a pic I posted about the tu9 messing them up.. but after Tu10 it was back operational..
Place ladder on a 1x1 opening one block down. Then a minecart where the halfslabs are.
As long as you place an "exit" cart. You can exit out at any floor.. Kinda hard to explain in text..
To ascend all you do is LT at the bottom of the carts going up super fast and to descend you enter the cart and smoothly fall down.
I could do a crappy video off my tablet. If you guys would like. No PVR

I SUPPORT because makeing redstone piston elevators look to complicated. (it probobly isn't but I can't play onlike so i am lerning by myself and learning it from a tutorial is more overwelming than someone teaching you). plus acual elevaters would be alot nicers
