I think that the amount of mobs you can spawn with spawn eggs should be unlimited. we should be able to spawn 200 pigs if we want to, or 200 cows if we want to, there shouldn't be a maximum number to the amount of mobs you can spawn with a spawn egg, it should take place in TU11
If you had too many animals in the game, it would take up a lot of memory and the Xbox 360, which doesn't have nearly as much RAM as most PC's, would not be able to handle it.

Go spawn the limit for each type of mob and see how that works out. Its especially noticable on servers how laggy the mobs make it. I once spawned the limit for squids, villagers, a passive mob, and a hostile mob and there was literally a 50 second delay on my friend's server from when an action was actually performed.
