Electric fences. These shock any mobs that touch them. They can be crafted like iron bars, but instead of iron ingots, they use 4 blaze rods (2 on each side) and 2 redstone (in the middle). They connect to other electric fences and iron bars. Also they need a redstone current to work and carry the current to up to 8 adjacent electric fences (like powered rails). They have the same texture as iron bars, except the color of blaze rods, and they give off a slight glow and a small amount of electric particle effects when active. Any mobs that touch it will try to stay away from it after the first shock (unless provoked by a player to walk back into it). and of course, players who try to hit it with anything while active will get shocked!
A redstone activated electric fence...hmm... would work in the same way as lanterns. on/off part of lanterns anyway. Seems like an idea, unsure what to make of it though, but decent though.:D

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
So players only get shocked while hitting it?
Why not give them a shock and kickback?
I honestly thought that when i said "shocked" the knockback from it would kinda be implied. I mean, almost all damage in minecraft inclues SOME knockback, so of course an electric fence would.

One of the things I meant to say is while touching it aswell. That was the main point and it doesn't really get mentioned at all silly me.

I put my shirt on one leg at a time, just like everybody else.
This is a great idea, and a huge step towards curbing griefing. Players can't just break your fence or they'll get shocked. You'd just have to hide the on/off lever somewhere good.
I like it. Though I think it'd be more suited being red instead, like the color of redstone, but that's a non-issue. I'd also think about Electric gates, which would just be gates that when powered snap closed and electricute like the regular fences and when not-power can be opened and closed at will ^^

Actually, I was also thinking of a way of getting past without going around or shuting it off and you just cleared it up for me
This is a really good idea ! Maybe you could have charged fences if lightning its them
Ps: don't like your user name or picture
uhh...thanks for the support but this page really isnt about being scared of slendy XDThanks to a message i got, i remembered one key thing: players can dig under the wall. So, maybe the electric fence could transmit an electric current 10 blocks downward aswell? i dont know. If anyone has an idea of how to fix this, please tell me

The thing with this is I don't see this as being practical with other players who can build or mine, as it wouldn't take much to go over or under it. What I see it being used for is:
protecting a chest or other valuables when the person is not allowed to build or mine
adventure maps and hunger games maps, where breaking/building is against the game's rules anyway
single player, keeping mobs out of a certain area
Apart from these, I can't see them affecting another player. It seems to be that way with a lot of "security measures" that unless used when a player is kept from building/mining they won't stop a player from getting through.
Ok when I first read this post I thought, this is one of the best ideas I've seen so far. Then I got to thinking, people could just go right over or right under the fence. This would make it nice for keeping out mobs but not much hated griefers. And on the Xbox without having any ways to protect land, this would be pretty much useless. But then I thought of a soloution. It uses your idea of having the current go down 10 blocks. This is how I think it could work. You would place your first fence around your property as normal. Then, you dig down 10 (or however many) blocks and you place a second fence directly below the first one. When both are powered and are within the maximum range of each other, lines of electricity would form between the two. It woudn't be solid obviously and if you touch it it is the same as touching the fence. And you could continue doing this all the wat down to bedrock and up to the clouds. That way even if somebody did make a tower over the fence, they ould most likely die from fall damage.

Wow. You have no idea how much you improved the idea. So, fences within 2-maybe 6, 8, or 10 blocks of each other, would cause arcs of electricity between each other? Thats actually a really good idea, but i think it might be a little overpowered. As someone previously commented, it will be used best in singleplayer against the pesky fence-hugging creepers. The crafting recipie mentioned is to asure the player has to work for something this powerful, as each group crafted would yield only 4 fences. This idea is probably best left at stopping mobs and adventure maps. However, they could be used as mob/griefer traps. Since the fences knock things back, it can be used to continually bounce a mob/player into other fences until they die.

Yeah now that you say is it does sound really overpowered. The griefer trap is a really good idea though. Like they fall in a hole and death is assured...I like that.
I'm relatively new to the forums, so I accidently "wishlisted" my last page. So, i grabbed out my favorite idea: Electric fences. These shock any mobs that touch them.
