This idea is a Quarter-Block, i have posted this in a suggestion topic but i think it deserves its own topic..
Well i have edited a image of a block and made this image!
-The one in the middle is the quarter block if you couldent tell-
this would act as a slab, When you place 2 quarter blocks on top of eachother it turns into a slab wall and if you place a quarter block infront of a slab wall then it turns into a staircase
So thats the suggestion, the crafting recipe is very simple you can just turn a average block into 4 quarter blocks

Oh yeah.
I love it.
It would make slight curvatures on buildings much better aswell as steep roofs.
Good for lighthouses, thinner walls for non spacious things like pirate ships.
This in my opinion is what minecraft needs NOW!

I put my shirt on one leg at a time, just like everybody else.

I think there may be some confusion with the name.
I personally call slabs half slabs at the moment.
Maybe we need a name that suggests quarter of a block rather than half of a slab.

Think i should change the name to Quarter-Block?, and instead make a ordinary block give you 4-Quarter blocks? Edit: I changed it hope its better!
This reminds me of part of the redpower mod for pc. It lets you use a handsaw to make blocks similar to these, but you can also make panes, pillars, and blocks with holes in the middle of them.
Hate to throw a wrench into this, but your ide wouldn't full work.
Speaking specifically of making a slab staircase, Minecraft functions in a way that only a single block can occupy a space at a time. From what it sounds like if I'm understanding your description correctly, you would want more than one slab to be place in a single square at once.
That would take quite a bit of work to pull off on 4Js part.

Can you for once be positive about anything? This is an awesome idea and I think it's something that 4J could do. I'm totally for this idea. One more way of differentiating MCXB360E from MC PC.

You can put 2-Slabs ontop of eachother, and that means you can put 2-Blocks in 1-Block space, im pretty sure if 2 can fit in 1, then 3 can, Thanks for the support everyone!

Well that is a mod, this is a suggestion for vanilla
I understand why everyone supports this, it is an... interesting idea. But I have to go with Mustache Guy on this, I don't see 4J implementing it. Lets hope for adjustable stairs/slabs and corner stairs before anything else.

I want upside down, corner stairs and upside down half slabs.
Then I also want anvils and trading.
Jungle biomes are a given.
I'm not too worried about much else.
