Last night as i was struggling to sleep, which i often do, i came up with a great idea. A lot of these foods require a way of cooking them, but coal is already used for so much that these new foods may end up further taxing our limited supplies. So what we really need is a new type of crafting table that only makes food. To this end, I'd like to suggest the addition of a stove! You'd build your stove at a crafting table using 6 Iron ore (I), 1 obsidium block (O), a bit of redstone (R), and a flint and steel (F), arranged as so!
(I)(O)(I)
(I)(R)(I)
(I)(F)(I)
As Tamorr pointed out, a modern looking stove may stick out pretty badly given the aged look of a lot of our tools and blocks so the stove should look like a older potbelly stove!
Like one of these!
If we do get a modern texture pack the stove could then look like the white sided boxes we're all familiar with.
The stove would only be used to make complex newer foods (That way people won't die of starvation before managing to find flint or obsidium, though I'd argue that cakes and cookies should be retconned into requiring the stove to make)
Perhaps additional incentive could be added to the device to encourage using it to make all foods by allowing it to increase the yield of crafted foods. 3 wheat could make 2 loaves of bread if crafted in the stove, as an example.
I think this device would be a very nice addition and would look wonderful in any building with a mock kitchen, meshing very well with the post I linked about additional vegetables to be grown on farms and the new foods we could make with them!
If i may also add in another suggestion, I'd also love to see more placeable foods similar to the cake! It'd be cool if we could place a whole table of foods, chicken, a bowl of apples, bowls of stew, glasses of water or milk, a few loaves of bread, maybe even the burgers i mentioned before!
Also, not sure if Pumpkin Pie is going to be added to our games or not, but I'd love to see them soon! I've been growing a field of pumpkins ever since seeds were added, but I don't really like to use jack-o-lanterns as a light source as I find glowstone to be more aesthetically pleasing especially at night!
i dont need to read any of that to know its a good idea XD

I like the idea, but the look is a bit less to be desired. What you describe would be a bit too modern for my taste.
If it were like a pot belly stove or similar in design to the furnace that would be fine. After all in the ages past it would be something similar to that.
However maybe they could add something like that in a texture pack in the future, like a modern texture pack... that look would fit in with that...:D

True, a pot belly stove would make more sense in the game, I just figured a more modern stove would be easier for them to build. At least you guys like the concept!

i like modern as it feel like minecraft is moving up the only problem is the more modern it get the more people are gonna want guns in minecraft instead of bows. and i think sooner or later 4j will start to consider the idea and minecraft wont be the same with guns

yeah it is a pretty decent idea, as more things end up on the crafting bench. I mean who makes bread with a hammer and a set of nails? lol
I actually wouldn't mind things like that to be put in another object such as this so there will be more space for blocks that are not edible.. Kinda a way to separate cooking & crafting...:D

That was pretty much what I was thinking too. Adding in a bunch of food the the crafting bench would clutter that thing like crazy!
I went ahead and edited the top post to reflect the new direction. I even found a picture of a bunch of potbelly stoves to give people an idea of what they look like.
if they ad guns i say it should be a texture pack. like the modern texture pack have guns instead of bows and arrows look like bullets. but i dont want to talk about texture packs or this thread may get closed and if it does i would not be able to support it anylonger

With how easy it is to get Coal (600,000 Coal per world) and Charcoal, with Charcoal being an infinite renewable resource, I feel like this would be a waste of time for 4J.
Since Charcoal is infinite and pretty much anything made of wood can be used as fuel, there is no real reason for a whole other stove/table thing just for making food. Just my opinion, but I don't think it would be worth 4J's time.

guns shld not be mc unless its zombie survival or somethin like that. can only be used on certain maps. i actually wuldnt mind a redstone stove. or a coal burning stove. itd be nice to have more food

Yeah, the stove was an idea born more of my desire to see more food rather than my worry about running out of coal, I figured i'd mention it as a sideline plus to the idea. The big thing the stove would add would be a better place to keep the recipes for cooking rather than keeping them crammed into the crafting table, thereby opening that area up for additional content to be added in.
I do concede to your point that there really is no threat of ever running out of fuel, though.

Ok, so recently i was toying around with this idea in my head when i realized that a lot of the foods used for recipes people are talking about involve cooked meats. As is i just took the idea as read and assumed that in the process of cooking crafting the food you'd also cook the meat. The problem with this is that the whole thing would be a silent, instant transaction. This might detract from the game as currently to cook food you have to wait for it to finish, which is truer to life and helps with immersion.
So. . . how would the stove handle this?
Could we add in a place food here to cook it tab and still allow players to brows their cookbooks or would that be a bit much?
Here's how i'm imagining it

So, what do you guys think? Is this up to snuff and ready to be added to the top post or do i need to further refine it?
I love the idea.
Maybe freshly cooked food could count be more filling.
It would be great for sandwiches, Bread, cookies, cakes.
Maybe they could also be more efficient but only cook food.
Eg 1 coal would cook 12 instead of 8 like in a furnace.

Why does everyone assume that guns in minecraft means.
Sniper rifles and SMGs?
They must play way too much COD, fitting guns would be flintlock pistols and muskets.
If not leave them out.
Give us battle axes and warhammers aswell.
Daggers, claymores, shields?

we never said those type of guns. guns in minecraft ANY GUNS are a horrible idea we dont need guns.guns in minecraft will ruin minecraft. a bow is the closest we will get to a gun and im glad it will stay that way. and if they add daggers claymores and shield well then we will be playing a box version of BO2

Yeah, i don't much like the idea of guns in minecraft either. We've got bows and arrows the furthest i coudl see it going would be maybe a crossbow but then again how would you make that any different than a bow? I think i'd rather see spells like fireballs and lightning bolts before i'd like to see guns.
So i may need to reconsider the ingredients to make the stove now as i was thinking of a modern electric stove when i came up with that, but now we're moving way more towards a wood or coal burning stove. any thoughts on the new design for that? should we move the flint and steel up to the middle or leave the middle blank?
