I feel that we need beacons like PC, but it is too costly to activate. How about simply flipping a switch? That would be easier than nine Diamond blocks. Maybe seen all over the world.
Maybe if they add servers.
At the moment the world size is impossible to get lost in after 20 minutes of playing.
I very rarely loose my sense of direction. I have a very photographic memory and find my way to familiar locations very easily.
If servers where there the world size could easily be about ten or so times bigger.
Then you need them.
The way I could see them working is a special red stone light contraption gets put on a red stone block.
Then the light is projected up through another block which would allow for varying colours for different places.
If you wanted the beam to remain red you could use glass.
Also some other uses for the beam block should be added so its not just a single purpose.
Maybe you could fire it through the ground to activate far off red stone circuits without all the wiring.
Maybe you would still have to dig a tunnel for the light to travel through tho.

I put my shirt on one leg at a time, just like everybody else.
I can never get lost in minecraft due to my gaming memory.
But this would be a good idea, and i have an example of what to do.
Step 1: get the required ingredients: 2 redstone, 1 glowstone, 3 iron blocks. 1 Lappis lazulli
[crafting table]
R= redstone, G= glowstone, I= iron blocks, X= nothing, L= lappis lazulli
X G X
R L R
I I I
Step 2: complete the crafting (as shown above) to get the Beam Activator
Step 3: Place the Beam Activator
Step 4: wire it
Step 5: craft the Beam Magnifier
G= glass, I= iron bars
G G G
I X I
I X I
Step 6: place the Beam Magnifier directly above the beam activator
Step 7: power the redstone and see the Beam fly to the sky!THE BEAM CANNOT HAVE ANY BLOCKS ABOVE IT WHEN USED AS A BEACON!When powered, it will activate all redstone in a 20x20 area, not items activated by redstone, example iron doors, note block Etc.
Activated by simply flipping a switch though, right? not nine mineral blocks.
Oh god.
Nine mineral blocks.
I think they should've made it glass blocks or something.
Who ever has spare diamonds?
I've never even crafted a diamond hoe legitimately.

I currently have 287. Thats not counting the 8 picks and 5 swords (or the half dozen or so picks Ive already broken). Fortune III and a little patience goes a long way.

Your one of those people that spends most of their time underground I'm guessing.
I prefer the freedom of the open air.
Climbing to the highest peaks, gasping in the open air.
Going about my day not worrying about being stuck on a island of lava.
Building farms instead of mob traps and castles instead of tunnels.
Yay, it be a good life the surface.
But what you make up for in luxury you pay for in riches of the deep you never came to find.

He means who has nine blocks worth of diamond to simply turn the light on? I would also rather use the iron to make tools.

Building mob traps and tunnels.
Haha. Yeah thats me. In my current world my base is built from a stronghold - got a rail hub going to an underground tree farm, mob spawners of all types, and an underground "meadow" for passives. Havent seen sunlight in weeks.
Leave this to 4j! I'm not saying this is a bad idea, but i think 4j knows it would be very strenuous to mine 81 diamonds or 81 other minerals, so they might increase the population of minerals or use you crazy, but reasonable idea!

why is everyone so afraid of a challenge?

I find anything else made of anything more than iron is just a waste.

I know. My point was I have the extra diamonds.
So use gold blocks.
I dont understand why you think we should get the benefit of beacons so cheaply.
