I have a general dislike for "on-the-fly" options when it comes to mobs. The option to enable/disable mobs (any mob) should be for new world generation only.

Sorry if my earlier post was terse - I like your ideas overall. Having the dragon see you from a further distance makes it that much harder to run from. Basicly dont get close unless youre willing to fight (should also be able to hear the dragon roar up to 40 or so blocks away so you dont accidently aggro it). Having it despawn once aggro is great - if you manage to escape.
The 1% chance is fair. I would say they should also spawn under any light level.
That is actually what I was refering to...>< I guess I forgot to say that... But yes on world generation, as it wouldn't be all that right otherwise.. Unless the dragon drops something that you can not get somewhere else. If the latter is the case then having it in the options menu in game or on the load screen would make sense. I do not think it should be in the in-game menu at all, as that would indirectly be a bit abusive or close to it.
Most of those type options I actually prefer on the load map screen and/or on the map generation screen. That is where it would make most sense, to at least control what would or has a chance of happening within each session of play. Well that is the way I see that option.

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
