As it currently stands, enchanting is the only use we have for levels.
Enter, spells.
Spells would work very similarly to enchanting or brewing, as in you would need to initially create a 'Spell Book' which would be the equivalent of an Enchanting Table or Brewing Stand (potential crafting method, diamond in the middle, a book on top and below, and three pieces of obsidian on each side?).
Once you have crafted your spell book and in order to maintain some sort of fairness, you would have to create spells much in the way of creating potions. A spell would have to be cast onto a 'Spell Stone' (potentially a piece of obsidian surround by four smooth stones?). When creating your spell you would place items in to create it (ghast tears, blaze powder, feathers, rotten flesh [yes another use besides puppy food!], etc.). Once the ingredients have been added, you insert the 'Spell Stone' into the table.
From here you would have to use your levels, which depending on how many levels you use, would determine the amount of durability, or uses, your new spell has.
Lets say using ten levels grants you one use of your created spell ('Spell Stone' doesn't break, it just remains in your inventory with no use). Twenty levels could grant three uses of your spell, and a full thirty will allow you five uses. Came up with these numbers to ensure that it would be more beneficial to create a spell with a full thirty levels, and wouldn't allow any 'cheating the system' by creating multiple level ten spells. As in, three level ten spells will grant three uses whereas one level thirty spell will grant you five uses.
Besides the crafting and usage, potential spells could include: Lighting (a lighting bolt crashes down and damages all mobs/players in a 3x3 area), Earthquake (a 4x4 area of land is flattened by three blocks, essentially dropping mobs/players into a small hole), Flight (allows flight for 30 seconds, and can only be cast on other players [can't cast on yourself infinitely allowing never ending flight] [this would work great in RPG/Faction type servers]), and possibly Revive (cast on an ally, and if they die within 30 seconds of the spell being cast on them they are revived instantly on the spot).
Anyways, thoughts, opinions?
I really think this has a potential place in Minecraft, especially the Xbox 360 addition.
I hate to be the bumper of bumpyness, but as this received no responses, would anyone care to voice thier discontent with the idea? I thought it would be rather interesting, but apparently I'm alone on this one.
This is a great idea, a new sense of a RPG would be added. The only problem would be that it'd have to be simplified a bit seeing that the Xbox Edition was made primarily for newcomers to Minecraft. Other than that it's brilliant.
I think the idea is pretty good. It gives some of us that enjoy survival more of a reason to keep playing....as to where others ask for the same stuff as the comp version. Theres very little asking for things to set the 360 version apart from the comp version. But yes just the idea of using exp. for something other than just one thing is a great idea.

That's what I was thinking regarding giving more goals to survival and also setting the 360 version apart. I just tend to get bored in survival world, and the uses for experience points is extremely limited (and random). It'd be nice to use your 30 levels of experience and know what you're going to get, versus enchanting a bow and getting punch II.
Agreed, I think this Spell idea is great, Perhaps they could add more variety to the game then just battle mechanics, like you said flight, that would be cool, or how about a Spell of growth (like bonemeal but it affects a 6x6 area) or maybe even something crazy like Spell of the Summoner which allows you to spawn non-hostile entity's (this would make the "when pigs fly" achievement much Easyier. Anyways all and all I like the idea of multiple uses for Exsperience

Great idea, but Xbox is eventually going to mirror PC. Notice how almost every update XBox Minecraft has gotten is already in the PC version. I'm sorry but this idea will probably not be implemented unless it is added to PC first. Not to say it won't be added to the game, but it'll come to PC first if Mojang (or alot of people) likes it and then to XBox.

Spells would definately be a great idea. Just add some more combat options and maybe a couple building spells. Maybe you can instantly teleport back to your bed, or instantly break all the blocks in a certain radius (Besides bedrock :P).

I like it, how about a spell that lets you pass through 1 block thick walls?

Punch II, lol I hate when that happens
I do like the potential behind a 'Summoner' spell, maybe even spawning hostile mobs to attack for you. Based upon how many levels you spent decides on how many mobs spawn for you. With 30 levels spawning 5 mobs maybe?
Not as big of a fan on the growth spell, as it seems to be a bit useless since using bonemeal or tilling an area is so simple.

4J themselves have stated that once the Xbox version gets to a certain PC version (forgot which one, 1.3, 1.4?), they are going to be taking the Xbox version in a different direction. Hence why we have the Xbox specific suggestion forum. Please don't spew nonsense with absolutely no basis as it may deter someone else from posting their great idea.

A teleport could be useful, maybe not back to your bed since that would seem too unfair, and could make PVP insanely aggravating, but maybe something along the line of the ender pearl ability, but with no damage to the player.

I think a spell that lets you pass through walls could be way overpowered and would severely hinder a bunch of multiplayer server honor rules. People would hop in and out of bases they shouldn't enter and so on.

Haha I know, I was playing on an RPG/Faction type server and was so excited to enchant my bow, my 30 levels all ready... Punch II.

If someone on my server is willing to do such a thing, he doesn't deserve to be on my server... Boot him
So I was thinking, I like the idea, just had a couple of my own.
Instead of a Spell Stone make it a Spell Book, I wouldnt mind spending obsidian on the crafting bench, just not every time I want to make a new spell thing.
Also
You could increase the potency on the spell (ie fly for longer, lightning does more damage etc) if you place bookshelves around the spell bench, or whatever you're calling it lol (similar to enchanting)
Also
Perhaps one use of the spell per level of xp, that makes it impossible for exploiting any loopholes
Also,
Agro
Causes mobs to turn hostile against the closest player or mob.
Fire Balls
Similar to Blaze Fire Balls
Snowstorm
Similar to Fire Balls, only they're white and do extra damage to Nether-creature
Wind gust
Blasts mobs back, similar to how mobs get knocked back when you sprint-hit them
Rain
Make it rain in the hizhouse (ie, it starts raining and will end after x amount of time)
Homing... spell?
A spell that locks on to the mob you're aiming at and does non-elemental damage (ie if the mob moves the projectile will change course)
On the topic of teleportation
Why not make teleportation pads allowing for instantanious teleportation between two points (anymore would make things kinda awkward)

The only reason I suggested obsidian for the spell stone is that they don't break when they're exhausted and you can reuse them.
I like those ideas as well, except for the rain one, because man oh man do I hate rain in Minecraft haha.
The agro one is sort of like the summon one as well, and I believe the summon one would work better due to being able to use it during the day time. Can't agro someone if there aren't any mobs around.

You can agro the animals! That'd be a fun little twist, when you start massacring cows they have like a 1/25 chance to turn around and start attacking back! And with this spell all effected animals just start ruining your day.
And I'm sure if there's a rain spell there'll be a rain off spell, or you know, sleeping.
Wow...this is similair to the idea i had on adding powers into minecraft, i think they could go hand in hand soooo... FULL SUPPORT.
I would love to see some stuff like this on the xbox edition.

Where do you get off saying this? Minecraft Xbox wasn't made for newbs, it was made because LOTS of people wanted it
Irrelevant to the conversation. Spells!
