Backpacks would allow the player to carry around twenty to thirty more spaces of items around with them. To make one, simply put leather in the middle and all four corners, This will serve as the pack itself. Finally, put string in the middle top, left, bottom, and right to hold the pack together. I think this should be damaged after excessive use. Maybe and maybe not. If so, it should last a DECENT amount of time. Not to short and not to long. That is all. EPIC!!!!!
Think I would just prefer the backpack giving a chest full extra to carry around.
Unsure what to think of the damage bar thing.. As I have had backpacking backpacks last for years on end. I am not talking about your basic school bag... An actual backpack that you would use in real camping in the wilderness... Those do not break down as easily as a travel bag, which is basically what those schoolbags are. Of course I have had a schoolbag last me throughout 4-6 grades.... Then again it was a bag from a camping store...lol
Either way the idea as a whole would be interesting... still unsure about the damage though....><

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
This would be an awesome idea to add, I don't know why it was never in Minecraft to begin with. I don't like the idea of adding a damage bar to it though. There is a backpack mod available on the PC. I saw one done by Yogscast, and the recipe for it is ridiculously simple. In the crafting menu you fill in the outer boxes with leather, leaving the middle box open.

What makes this recipe so cool is with the mod, you could customize the back pack, like change the name and give it a custom color. One of the really cool types of packs was made with leather and a diamond in the middle, literally giving it magical properties. If this pack was lost or destroyed, remaking it with the same recipe would allow you to recover everything you had in it. This is one mod I would love to see brought to MCX360.
You can already carry an ungodly amount of stuff. Why would you need to carry more? lol
Having a backpack along would be beneficial on so many levels. Example: If you have a Magical backpack with a bunch of valuable stuff in it, which is made with 8 leather and a diamond in the middle, and you fell into lava, after you respawn you'd be able to re-craft the pack you just lost and get your stuff back. Not only that, but backpacks would allow you to keep your initial inventory clear.

Seems way to overpowered. If you fall in lava, you deserve to lose your stuff.
There need to be risks and rewards in Minecraft. Being able to craft something that keeps your inventory even if you die is too much. If you die, you deserve to lose your stuff.

My school backpack, which I bought from Wal-Mart has been with me for roughly 6 years and looks just as sexy as the day I bought it ;D

That's harsh dude, really harsh. Especially when people don't go swimming in lava on purpose. Most of the time when your mining, there's no way to know whether your over a lava pit or not.

Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. Here's the thing though, if it seems to OP, don't make it. It's just that simple. You as the player have the freedom of choice whether or not to make a Magical Backpack. If you don't want to make it because you think it's OP, then don't make it. Nobodies forcing you to begin with. Let's say for the sake of argument that 4J decided to add backpacks and all the various recipes to MCX360, including the magical backpack, that's their choice. I'm not saying they are, but that's the reality.

And I wouldn't. Doesn't mean I can't have the opinion that it being in the game is just overpowered and making the game too easy.
I see it as falling into the category of holding the players hand, which I extremely dislike. If you fall in lava, get blown up by a creeper, drown, etc, then you should have the chance of losing your stuff. It's like the game is saying "Oh, you messed up and lost your stuff, it's ok, here it all is again because you'll never lose it." I guess I don't see the fun in keeping you stuff forever without any risk of losing it.
Good Idea just might have to cut down on the number of slots it adds.
There is an mod for it though on Pc i think
There is a mod for the PC. It was covered by Yogscast. The number of slots in the pack is the same number of slots in your inventory, so it doesn't make sense to cut anything.

Enexpected amounts of iron and red stone on mining expeditions.

Haha. So true.
Except for the bubbling sound. . . and maybe not breaking the block youre effing standing on!!
Anyway I like the idea of a backpack. But only for certain items like ores, coal, redstone, etc. Its too OP otherwise. And no damage bar.
