How many of you think 4J should add bone armor to the console version of MC? It could have the same protection grade as leather just with a different texture.
With my duel skelly spawner (-1252819554 x189 y56 z196) Ive got two double chests nearly full of bones, an army of dogs, and OCD so I cant stop picking-up more. I need help. I need Bone Armor.
I think it would be nice to add that variety.
Definitely means something useful for bones when wolves are too numerous.
And I think they should make a new model for it and then build a couple more armours soon after it should be slightly better than leather aswell and just worse than chain.

This is what I was thinking. I would love to have another choice for armor early on. Gives a way to wear your enemy per say. That and I agree that bone should be better than leather but worse than chain.
No point in adding bone to be another color for leather, because if they decide to bring forward/add the dye armor option from the pc then it would make this rather pointless unless the above is done. I wouldn't mind seeing another type of armor in the game to add that variety in defense.:D

I give this support! - I love the idea, but maybe the bone amour could have just a little more protection than leather, yet not as much as iron, as there is a big gap between leather and iron because leather is pretty weak and iron is pretty strong.
Bone armor does sound good reminds me of necromancers from diablo 2
There could be a skull helmet and like dubstyler said it would be cool to have a bonus where skeletons ignore you if you have the full set on or you could look like a skeleton while wearing it
I think bone tools/weapons could be useful too they could be stronger then wood but weaker then stone there could be bone arrows too
Hey thanks for the support. I only equated the protection value to that of leather bc of the ease in which bones can be obtained. It would really only be something you would use in a pinch - such as caving on Hard when your chestplate breaks for example. You are more likely to have bones than leather. . . then again, you are also likely to have iron.
Maybe combining bone with blaze powder (strength - like in brewing) to make a new item used for armor recipe? Equal to chain (which can't be crafted).
EDIT - Someone mentioned Elder Scrolls (bonemold armor) and it gave me an idea:
5 bones (or bone meal) and 4 blaze powder in a crafting table (using a configuration similar to tnt) makes bone aggregate.
Use bone aggregate to craft armor.

definitely different. hmm... well that recipe would call for it being stronger at least...
I just think the regular bone made one will be a little better than leather.. as someone else mentioned afterwards between leather and iron to fill in the gap.
This new one could be another variant of the bone armor which would mean stronger with a magical touch. Could be a black variant to the normal white one. Just a thought at least...:D

I get what you are saying but if this idea is to be taken seriously there needs to be balance. Bones are easy to get - easier than leather if you have a skelly grinder. It wouldnt make sense to have a simple bone-recipe yield a better product.
By incorporating blaze powder (or other "mid-game" ingredient) into the recipe it justifies why it would be stronger. Bones and blaze rods can easily be farmed with grinders so the protection should not be greater than Iron, which is essentially a limited resource on the 360 (until zombies drop ingots).
As far as giving it inherent magical abilities. . . Im against it. Thats what Enchantments are for.

Well you could say the same for leather... as cows drop a whole lot of it, and since they spawn like crazy... well you get my idea. still think bone should be better than leather... adding blaze powder over complicates things... really by the time, at least me, gets blaze powder for it I would be having a load of iron armor. So it would make it pointless. Also the reason I said if you add that it would make sense to be better than at least iron.
Balance yes, but on both accounts both are easy to come by. common sense says that if something is readily available then it should be weak. Hence just using bones would be better than leather. After all leather can be obtained through breeding rather easily... if not just as easily as bones. Bones have more use than leather, usually in the form of bonemeal but still...
So adding the blaze powder would not really balance it out, that is if being between leather and iron. Iron will be farmable sooner or later anyhow so will make the skelly spawner comment redundant, well in a way. So it would be balanced with it being so, at least the way I see things.
Anything can be farmed, well almost anything.. gold can be farmed as well, that is if you take the effort to create something in the nether to collect it. I can personally see 2 versions of bone armor to come about, the light and dark. Having both recipes would add to that variety, and to some degree fill in those gaps. Also note that not everyone wants to build a mob farm of some kind, even if a spawner... From that is stands to reason that even though it is tougher than leather, you still have to get the materials somehow. Both leather and bones are pretty common... as common as each other. each skelly may drop 0-2 bones, however the cows drop 0-4 leather... so either way seems balanced.
on the enchantment side I would have to agree with you there. That is what an enchantment table is for after all...:D

Bone should be better than leather (looks like this is a discussion going on atm) because it takes resources to kill skeletons efficiently like a sword for example.
Without that you'll be dead.
But for cows you can start killing them from newly spawned with fist.

Also bones are considerably more durable than leather.

The main reason I was saying it was balanced this way. As it would take too much time to get to the nether to find blazes sometimes, just for a suit of armor that is worse than what you might be taking to the nether to fend off the blazes... one reason I mentioned there should be 2 sets. The blaze one with the powder of blazes recipe should be the dark one. and the regular one which is less strong should be an easy go. Well among the other things I had mentioned.
Anyway... These are pretty good points.:D

That would be to over powered. I never want anything added to the game that makes and aggressive mob neutral.
100% agree with this statement.

I dont think we should rationalize with real world physics. You can chop down trees with your hand.
(Sorry Panda - Im not singling you out, just making a point)
My ultimate concern is balance. Tamorr agrees with me that bones and leather are roughly just as easy to obtain. So why should bone armor be tougher than leather? To the point that a sword is required to kill skellies. . . well when breeding is fixed it will require wheat and a hoe (and time, or *gasp* bonemeal) to get lots of cows. Whereas with five minutes of work you can set-up a simple bone farm.
Now sure, some players wont be willing to go through the trouble of building a grinder. But some would. Thats the whole reason Mojang nerfed villager trading - because it was OP for those that did trouble themselves. For the others. . .well, sad day for you.
And please, dont get hung up on this "blaze powder" thing. Thats just symantics. I said earlier it could be any mid-level item. Slimeballs. IDK. The point is to have an intermediary step before crafting the armor. You know, like smelting iron ore!
I say have only one type of bone armor. Make it slightly tougher to obtain than just collecting one single item. Put its protection grade between leather and iron. And nix any magical or "special" abilities - it should be just armor.

Think this would be a good addition?
I like the idea, but it seems more Elder Scrolls-ish than Minecraft-like to me. =\
Stay fluffy~

Maybe even be able to make fences from bone

Mob heads are drops on the PC. You can wear them as masks but they offer no protection. Id rather have just straight-up armor than anything fancy.
