I just had a thought. One of the main things I dislike about Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition, is that if my friends want to play on my worlds I have to be online with them. I could leave my Xbox on and go about my business but that's dangerous for the Xbox. So I was thinking. What if you could rent a server?
Battlefield 3 offers a service exactly like this where you spend Microsoft points on renting a server for X days and it is a reasonable price. I think that if Minecraft X360 does this, not only does it offer more opportunity to make money for the developers, but it will also allow players to enjoy their favorite worlds regardless if the person who owns it is online.
I personally don't know how BF3 does this, but I'm sure it's very much possible for Minecraft to do the same. Please discuss!
"On PC, Mojang plans on launching Minecraft Realms, an online service that was conceived as a way for parents to offer "simple and secure" online play for their children. "Minecraft Realms will be a simpler kind of service, aimed at families and kids. In the future we aim to offer certain profiles with mods that are certified to work without crashing, but this will still be a safe and easy way for kids and families to play Minecraft online," Mojang CEO Carl Manneh told GI.biz."
"Subscribers will get access to their own self-contained world, and will be able to invite anyone that owns a copy of Minecraft. Subscriptions will cost somewhere around $10 to $15 a month, and will be available to purchase via prepaid cards."
I pay for a phone, rent, food, bills, gas, car insurance, health insurance, and many other things. Paying for a server is not something I feel would be a worthwhile use of what little money I have left after paying for everything previously listed.
I think this would be good, if you have the money to buy it Buy it if not DONT plain and simple
Then we run into the problem of only those who pay extra being allowed to have bigger worlds. That would be so unfair that 4J would create a massive backlash from the community. Like I said in another thread of this type, they either find a way to increase world size for everyone or no one should get it.
I for one would be ed off about it if that is how it would work. What about those who like to play offline sometimes by themselves? would their world be smaller because of that?
You guys have to take all this stuff into consideration. You can't just go "Bigger Worlds! Rented servers!" and not think of all the implications that come with it. It seems like a lot of people do that these days. They just ask for things without thinking about the consequences or the path that would need to be followed in order to get those things. Not to mention that game development is a business. If rentable servers is not a viable money making option, then it isn't a sound business decision for 4J, Microsoft, or Mojang.

That is for the PC, not the Xbox 360 Edition.
