It would be great but I doubt it. Although, I'm only guessing based on the 8 person limit in Xbox LIVE parties since people would like to be in contact with those they play with. Yes, game chat is an option but the sound quality is so terrible that I don't think people would want to use it.

It's actually completely relevant.
4J made the game to be played with people that are on your friends list. Since the party limit is 8 people, it's very easy to see why they chose an 8 player limit to the game. Friends only and everyone can be in the party instead of laggy game chat. As for the sound quality, Minecraft lags heavily when there is a full game of 8 players. This can lower the chat quality, even while in a party. If they increase the number of players, the lag would likely be worse, which may make it almost impossible to use game chat in the process.
I would love to see this if the player size is increased who says you have to use it because you dont. You can play with 4 players i dont care I would rather lag with 16 players then be bored with 8

It's more of waiting 5 seconds to have one block break and being killed by the Zombie waaaay over there....
