Redstone, Giant Computers, Video Game Electricity? You must of gotten extremely good grades... lol
Believe it or not, I was a complete f*ck up in school. Ended up partying too much and failing most of my classes in high school before I finally straightened up and went for my G.E.D. Kind of regret it in a way, I can't think as clearly as I used to be able to. It was worth it, for the most part though. But yeah, I'm somewhat of a closet nerd.
But may I suggst wiring it so it opens a door, possibly from a lever or button on the other side x3
The whole purpose is self-education.. and also for the fun of it. It's an entertaining challenge and one of the best problem solving exercises anyone could ever have.
And I could have it operate a combination of 65,536 individual doors if I really wanted. xD
My 6 block long piston bridge and my doorbell was enough to lag my xbox. All I can say is, good luck.
I hear you, I already know it's going to cause some pretty gnarly frame drops. Even my old computer would occasionally lag people out of the game. And the piston tape HDD made me double step all over the place. Like I've said before, my ultimate goal is to build a machine so powerful it can completely crash the 360. I'm almost positive this won't, but I'm certain it will cause quite a bit of lag, maybe cut the framerate in half at most.
so chevelles "seeing red" comes to mind, lol, great build man im jsut starting to grasp what these machanisms do. but this looks pretty insane.
like the printer idea but you wont be able to use obsidian unless they changed its physics since pstons cant push obsidian. not sure if they changed that. also. could you buld a 3d printer with programable shapes or even designable houses. i know that sounds kind of crazy. but could you imagine selecting a location on your map and having it pop up a pre programmed house. or storage building.

Oh my god... I feel like the hugest tard right now. lmao xD Not sure what I was thinking when I said obsidian. It probably won't even be black and white colors. All I know is it won't be sand and gravel, that's the lazy way and it just looks tacky. It also won't be colored wool, just because I think the texture looks really crappy. It'll be something plain like snow and clay, I just drew a creeper face on the ground with them and they contrast very well.
A 3D printer wouldn't be that complicated honestly. I've seen them on YouTube before, they just print one flat image at a time, pushing each one forward with a wall of pistons after it's complete. The only thing that's sorta difficult about them (but not really) is they would require a system similar to dual-rail logic... kind of. Most printers operate in a way that 1's are one color, 0's are the other color. A 3D printer would mean all colors require 1's and would be chosen selectively, requiring two instructions per print line instead of one. For this build I'll probably stick with a standard 2D printer, but I'll definitely think about a 3D model for the future.
P.S. To anyone that thinks I'm some sort of genius, check out this video from bennyscube. This guy makes my builds look like a preschool kid's finger paintings.
i just realized im not as good at mincraft as i once thought. Time to amp it up! Amazing work though. i would love to see it in action. Gamertag Punchuintheeye
Just as a curiosity, what do you guys think about color coding? I'm not worrying about it for this project, but I was wondering if organizing things according to function, with different blocks, would maybe help you guys understand it a little more. If so, I will definitely keep it in mind for future builds. Right now though, I've came too far to rebuild everything just to make it a different color.
Also, the ALU is nearly done. Expect an update later today. I'll quote anyone who's following this, just so they know for sure.

Color coding is not just for the benefit of the creator, but also for the benefit of anyone who you are showing your creation. It also make explaining what "non-descript line of redstone #1,563's" special function in the build and where exactly it goes, and how without it the build would break. Haha.

That's exactly what I was thinking, I'm just asking the people who view my threads if it would be helpful. Personally, it has no use to me, I built it so I already know the function of every piece and mechanism. But, I was looking at everything as a whole last night and thought, "Man... This really does just look like a huge cluster of wires."
That's why I tried to take screenshots of everything piece by piece, as it was built. But thanks to a new bug, some of the photos didn't make it to Facebook. Plus, I don't think that does it justice anyway. After this project I think I'll go back to a combination of diamond, gold, iron, lapis, snow, smooth stone, etc. Just so everything is a bit more organized.
i had this long detailed description of an idea i had and wrote it down fluidly as it came to me.... then when i went to post it my internet dropped for a split second and it didnt post. lol. im gonna try and re type it verbatum.

Well then in your case, at least, it will be fully for the benefit of the observers.
EDIT: Also, I thought you might find this to be cool:
The point of the build isn't the build itself, but rather the fact that it's(going to be) a working computer made with redstone. If you can't grasp that then we can't help you.
^^^ The line on top is just for testing. This thing can pull off a full ripple carry in 13 ticks! ^^^
And here's a sweet night-time shot from the other side:
This next one is for size reference. It takes up an area of about 14 square chunks, I would guess 64 x 52 for the area. Not sure about the height, I'll get some exact measurements later.

Don't you just hate when that happens? That's why when I type a mega-post, I always copy it before clicking post.

Haters gonna hate. If someone decided to build this legitimately in survival, I would call them insane.

Certainly, though it may be some time before I can start showing it off though.

Awesome! Thank you!!
