Been working on this map with a few friends since about mid december 2012, it's an ongoing project of mine that is just a complete joy to do (though a bit frustrating at times when running low on ideas or motivation as all artists tend to suffer from eventually).
The map began as a superflat creative mode map that I was going to use to rebuild an old mansion from a survival mode map, as I did not like the placement of the mansion. The mansion was right in front of a huge mountain so there was literally no backyard, and it was surrounded by sand. Rather than spend hours blowing up the mountain and removing the sand at a tedious pace, I decided to completely redesign a replica of the same mansion on the new superflat world.
NOTE: The mansion is not my creation, it is actually from a creator named "Nolife2018" and it was featured on Top 5 Minecraft Structures - Houses. I do not take credit for the design, I only rebuilt a faithful recreation of it.
For scenery purposes, I built a road at the front gate with a sidewalk. This was when I suddenly got the idea to build sprout out and make an entire city. So I extended the road out a little more, and added a few town homes, these townhomes later served a practical purpose as each of the people who would come to help me with my city would each get to choose one of these townhomes and build the interiors as they saw fit. A little incentive for helping me build as I'm very picky with who I let join my map as it's something that I'd rather not risk becoming less than the vision I have set for it.
I plan on filling the entire map as a fully functional city, however as of this posting, I have only completed a 1/8th if even that, grid of the city on the map.
I'll post a few pictures of the history of the city building, from start to current.
Here is a picture of the very first beginnings of the city, the mansion, a random store, and the townhomes in their first stage before being changed:
Here are the first 2 city buildings built by a friend of mine, one is a modern art/restuarant based off an actual building, and the other somewhat hard to see wooden building is a modern apartment:
Here you can see a different view of the modern art building as well as the wooden apartments, there is also the addition of the hospital in the distance as well as an egyptian style hotel:
Here are a few additional buildings added over time:
Followed by even further buildings:
Later added were a few townhomes in the heart of the city:
And for artistic purposes only, a construction site as well:
Fire department:
Statue in honor of the builders of the city:
A Minecraft Movie Studio (Based off a design and expanded upon), inside are actual movie sets:
One of the latest buildings, a modern replica of Jacques Fresco's double helix building design:
Current state of the city:
Same, but also showing the stadium as well:
This is just a small portion of the city, and a lot of it isnt shown in these pictures. We have an airport with runways, hanger, and control tower. A prison with real prisoners (lured all the villagers into each cell), a library, and more. The city is constantly being expanded as each day progresses until I finally reach the goal of filling the entire map!
Every building will eventually have fully functional interiors, but as of right now only a few do. The stadium isnt a square, its more an oval than anything.

k, well, its to wide for its length. the feild part. Your goal post looks odd with so much space on both sides. I built 3 stadiums, im pretty sure they are way bigger the long ways. .-.
I am not really into modern builds much, but I can say this is one of the good ones... I really like the 3D steve statue that you made, makes it better than pixel art of him...:D
You have a variety in buildings which is what really catches my eye most, and that much I do like. Can't see myself building like that, as I am more in the dark ages to medieval ages type of builds if not fantasy types like from the styles seen in quite a few RPG games like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest series...
Every thing look nice, my only thing I really don't like about it is that it is on a superflat...>< Doesn't down rate it, just makes it like a plains city. Also again I am use to building with the terrain to get my inspiration and putting function in those buildings, while keeping in mind the surroundings..:D
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
Since adding this post, we've added the Twin towers, and 2 more modern buildings, as well as some adjustments to certain parts of the city. We're now expanding out east, should be interesting to see what comes next. Here are a few updated pictures, but just remember, most of the buildings are not going to be 100% complete for a while, because if we just focused solely on interiors of the buildings we'd like have 1 or 2 buildings with amazing interiors and thats it lol. So we're working on the outer shells first, and as you can see it hasnt deterred from making the city look alive so far. You'll also notice that a few buildings are based off of others designs. Mostly designs found on published schematics on MCSchematics which are free to use to import into PC minecraft games, however I simply rebuild them in the Xbox version from the ground up, making any necessary revisions to fit properly in the city. Anyways, heres the update pictures, let me know what you guys think.

So those are the latest pictures. I've also just recently (well within the past month or so) purchased an Xbox 360 HD Capture Card that I've been using to record some in game fly throughs, shows with friends, and occasionally stream me playing on Twitch.tv, just building and whatnot. I've made a few interesting videos, some trailers of the city (back before most of the new stuff you see today was on it) and tried to add some interesting music, here's a few of those if you guys are interested. Some of them are cool, some just plain dumb lol but still fun to make, I think I'll make another one soon. Made using iMovie and Elgato Game Capture HD
- Back when the map was in it's earlier stages, smaller stadium, things like that.
- A fake movie trailer about a man who, in a city where people drive, decides to walk instead lol.
- A random silent film about a man in a cave who deals with random things, this episode is him versus a zombie.
(A slight remake of the plane scene from Season 6 LOST where you see the island underwater, using music from the TV Show LOST) - my favorite video made so far just by the music and how it fit so perfect with the panning into the city.
- Random news with friends
- even more random news but even funnier and more professional looking this time.
Let me know what you guys think, and if you ever need some HD recording of your city, let me know!
Could've sworn I've commented on this before. Ah well. This looks awesome! Some of it seemed a bit random at first but then it got juicy. Very good work on the buildings it's very impressive. Two thumbs up!
Thanks! Yeah sorry for the random beginning pictures. Just wanted to show the evolution of the city, seemed like it would enhance the wow effect, and let people see the beginning roots to the final (or at least current) progress. It's constantly growing though, plan on filling up the entire map eventually!
I am very happy to present my latest work with my city. I've recorded a new video displaying Liquativille that I think you guys will really enjoy! I edited it using Final Cut Pro X and I think it turned out amazing! Tell me what you guys think?
I know right? I was trying to expand on your townhouses but I just couldn't do it like you could. I was meaning to contact you again to see if you wanted to help me with those and maybe add more buildings as well. I loved your work, and the city definitely needs expansion.
